Default Moving from T-Mobile Dash to BB 8800 - 1st time BB user

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've had so many problems and replacements of my Dash that T-Mobile is sending me a BB 8800 as a replacement. Is this a good thing? (Pretty much has to be after the wretched Dash.) One thing that motivated me to buy the Dash rather than a Pearl originally was that I like to listen to WMA format audio books while I drive and the 8800 won't do that, will it? Is there any third party software that would do that on the BB? What am I likely to hate and likely to love about the 8800?

Any advice for a total noob would be appreciated.

Thanks!

alice

Default "Windows Media Audio and WMAPro supported in BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 ?

Thanks for the links, they were very helpful. It appears that it will support the .wma format if the device software is 4.2.1.

I don't have the phone yet but I've watched the demo on the Blackberry site, gone through all the feature pages, etc. and couldn't find the device software listed. Is the 8800 software 4.2.1? If so, I should be able to listen to library .wma books on it, which would make me extremely happy if I can figure out how. Or is there something I'm missing, since the T-Mobile website indicates that the 8800 will only play .mp3 and aa something?

Well, I'm getting more excited about the new phone the more I learn about it.

Thanks!

alice

this is exactly what happened to me, I got my 8800 as a replacement for the dash. I haven't looked back. I've used other BB's (8320/8820) and keep coming back to this phone.

Default Thank you both...

for the info. I just sent an e-mail to Overdrive Media (free audio library books in .wma format) asking them how I can get the OD books to play on the 8800.

I've had three Dashes so far. Pretty much the same problem with every one of them-the charger/headset connection gets loose and I can't charge or use my headset. This time when I called I was prepared to be very firm about them sending me something ANYTHING besides another Dash. Hated it, hated it, hated it. Of course, I shouldn't have been so surprised since it's Windows. I'm so happy that they are exchanging it for the 8800. This is my first Blackberry and I'm really looking forward to it-should have gotten one in the first place but I was seduced by the prospect of being able to listen to audio books while a I drive and not miss phone calls or have to switch back and forth from two different devices.

Thanks for the help!

where were you to talk some sense into me when they were telling me it was a great replacement for my MDA? those might possibly be the worst phones ever.

Welcome to the world of BB I switched from an AT&T 8525 (HTC TyTN)...and like many on here have never looked back. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet are Blackberry service plans. I'm assuming you had some sort of Data plan since you had a dash. Keep in mind you really need a Blackberry plan rather than a data plan to make the most of your new device. Something to think about...

Ezrunner,

I'm with TeritaM on this one-LOL! Where were you when I was researching my little heart out on the Dash and found virtually no bad reviews on it. <smile> Well, there will be one bad review out there now; everywhere I can. Horrible phone.

Olly666,

Thanks for the advice-I'll definitely be calling customer support after I read the user guide and make some changes to my plan. I need to understand the GPS a little better and, of course, the e-mail and internet. I couldn't send e-mails from the Dash-could receive, but not send. I'm told I shouldn't have that problem with the 8800, thank heaven.

You are very welcome. Get yourself one of T-Mobile's Blackberry plans and you can send email to your hearts content! You should also download Opera mini (it's free), since it's a quite a bit better than the Blackberry browser. Be sure to checkout all the guides and FAQs on this site for some value starter points. Stick with us and you'll be an expert on your new toy in no time

I have been around the block with BB and Windows Mobile. I went from a Razr (T-Mobile) to the BB 8800 (T-Mobile) to the Wing (T-Mobile) to the XV6800 (Verizon) to the BB 8830 (Verizon). The BB's are the best hands down.
