i sent my 8100 pearl for repairs because the battery button went missing. they sent back a new phone!. no scratchs now touch wood.

OK, at least the camera is fixed in this release, though when I first tried to play a mp3 file the player took a long time to load and when it did, it said out of memory!!! i just activated the device so it should be clean.

You should uninstall the older OS's from your PC before installing the new OS. The DM should then recognize the need to upgrade.

Not true. I would leave the older OS so that you can revert back to it easily should problems arise. There is no need to remove older OS's. I usually have two or three (sometimes more) older OS's loaded on my PC. Desktop Manager will load the newest OS if the vendor.xml file is deleted.
Sorry I should have clarified. I always keep the original install files on my machine ie the large exe files downloaded from the carrier sites. What I have found is that I have to go into add/remove programs on my PC and remove previously installed OS's and then install the one I want to install on my BB. This ensures that I get a upgrade when I want it or a downgrade when I want it without risk of DM picking up the wrong install. I found this is actuallynthe only way I could get the BB to downgrade.

Admittedly not so critical for an upgrade.

Have you removed any of the dimension themes or the plazmic theme reader file from the BB?

Just upgraded and I get the following error everytime I reboot:

"Uncaught exception: Artclinterface::DocPostToCaret: error 3; formatted text length = 29"

I can hit ok to clear it and the phone seems to be ok and the OS is stable. Any ideas? I can look past the error, just want to make sure I didn't royally mess something up. Thanks!

Does anyone know what the exact package name is for removing preloaded wallpapers/sample video for this specific firmware build -

On checking the famous memory optimization thread - I do see a posting by John

Note: On OS 4.5 the preloaded wallpaper file has been renamed net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240.cod and net_rim_bb_medialoader_240x260.cod

But I do not see that file for this OS 4.5 firmware

Thanks,

Did you read the note at the bottom of the first post? The wallpapers are NOT included in this release. RIM has removed them in some "optimizing" of their own.

This still shouldn't be required. I always keep one or two versions back installed on the PC. DM will ALWAYS load the newest if the vendor.xml is removed. If you want to downgrade, simply uninstall all newer OS's than the OS you want to downgrade to.

Anyone having problems with Google Maps (latest version - 2.2 I think) on 4.5 ? On 4.5.0.37 gmaps crashes with a java exception after giving a blank screen for a couple of minutes. I'm hoping this is fixed with .55. which I will be trying out later today.

Still doing it after registering and upgrading. Oh well.

EDIT: It was the Berry-A-Code program causing it. Once I deleted it, the error message went away. Now I just wish I could get AOL instant messenger to work.

Thumbs up Re Google Maps - and stuff

Did my upgrade yesterday.

I specifcally did not keep certain third party apps during the upgrade.

On .55, I specifically downloaded a new version of google maps over the air and it installed and ran fine.

I did have a java exception issue with Web Messenger Alerts 2.1 - but I am working with the maker on that. It works fine now, but failed immediately after the upgrade. I did not uninstall it, or anything. What I did do was open and read an email or two. then the alerts app would start just fine.

Only oddities I have seen so far is that when taking a pciture (yes, the camera works on .55 ) I will see a white screen for a few seconds as it saves the image. I suspect if I clean up my media card this might go away. Then again - might not.
