Blackberry bold 9000 problems
Please Login to Remove!
Hi everyone,
I'm having a few problems (to say the least!) with my new blackberry bold, which I got my hands on today.
Firstly, it doesn't seem to be receiving any data what so ever. my carrier (vodafone uk) have confirmed my account is setup correctly, with my SIM showing the right data package etc (blackberry internet service). - but it seems that the device isn't picking this up at all, as it states ‘’Blackberry internet service: not connected”
I've attempted to run a diagnostic test from within the 'manage connections'' section, this will display:
''Blackberry registration: no" - connected to blackberry ''no'' Radio data activation ''no''.
I've done a hard reset, soft reset, wipe of the device - but it's still the same.
Can anyone shed any light on this? As my carrier seem very disinterested in my problem.
Thanks in advance!

Is your SIM card good to go (i.e. seated properly, registered etc)?

It can take a while for activation to kick in. Do you have a 3G or GPRS / EDGE signal in top right hand corner?
Some networks have been known to apply the wrong plans!
Try going to options > advanced options > host routing table, hit menu key and select register now. If you don't get a registration message then you are not activated yet.

Do you have anything listed under service books?
Perhaps you need to log-in to your vodafone site and try sending service books to the phone.

Just for a good test, have you tried doing an OS upgrade to either .162 or .167 and see if this helps?

Thanks for the replies,
well I’ve been told my vodafone the sim is registered, i can make calls/receive cals/receive txts from it etc.
Also i've got the 3g signal in the top, full bars. However, when i go into ''host routing table'' it's empty, and if i click on register now (which i've done a few times over the day) nothing happens. I just get ''Regististration message sent''
I've logged into the site and resent the service books as well, but again - nothing has been picked up on the device. Only service books listed are:
'WapPushConfig'
'WAP'
'BrowserConfig'' (which has no gateway IP assigned to it)
''WPTCP''
I haven't tried an OS upgrade yet - do you have a link? Is it just the one on the sticky on this forum?
thanks again

Yes the OS in the sticky is the latest I would suggest trying that first.

Just out of curiosity... where'd you get the device?
Was it brand new from a carrier, or is it second-hand?

Just upgraded to .167 - even though the interface is a bit faster, and wi-fi is improved, it's still not fixed the previous problem.
Looks like i'll have to get this replaced! - never heard of a blackberry DOA like this before. I support alot of these at work, and we activate 10 a week sometimes, not once has a device been faulty like this...weird.
Just my luck by the looks of it!

Do you have the ability to sync the device with Desktop Manager running on the same machine where your BIS server is, or at least a machine where the BIS server can be connected? You want the Desktop Manager to be able to access e-mail. From there, you should be able to configure the redirector on the computer.
I'm more familiar with BES, but I know that sometimes OTA registration is not as dependable, and I always aim for activation using a physical connection to the network...

Try resending the service books and see if that takes care of the issue.

Try a different SIM card, get a swap from your carrier.
