Here's some details I pulled off of Verizon Wireless' site.

With 2 year contract: $269.99 - $70 online rebate = $199.99
With 1 year contract: $339.99 - $70 online reboate = $269.99
With No Contract: $489.99

The 1 year pricing actually isn't that bad, if you assume that you'll be enticed to go to another device in a years time - especially if you'll have to switch carriers. (Palm Pre 2, iPhone 2010, I'm looking at you.)

It looks like Verizon values a 2 year contract at $290. (489.99-199.99) They also value a 1 year contract at $220. So even assuming you'll go to the BBxx30 on Verizon in a year, you may save some serious dough down the line if you pony up the extra $70 now.

I'll probably go with the 2-year contract, because there doesn't appear to be anything great on the horizon for VZW and it'd be unlikely that I'd switch carriers.

All phones have a $70 difference between 1 and 2 years. It used to be $50. You used to get free activation on a 2 yr too but that also went down the drain.

I really wish they would improve incentives for loyal customers.... I've a 5 line family plan, unlimited this and that... multiple BB's over 200 a month....

I really wish they would cut more of a break.. I mean its the monthly bill they make most of their money not the actually device sale.

Is the $199 price valid for any two year contract if you are eligible for either the Annual Upgrade or the 'New In Two'? I asked this question just now from VZW customer service and the nice young lady instructed me to log onto Blackberry.com and order my BB there! Ughhh....somebody just shoot me. The question is, are only 'New In Two' eligible lines able to get the $199. price?

I remember you can upgrade after being in your contract for 12 months, but they charge 50 addition (on top of the 2 year pricing)

I'm surprised I would call customer service usually they are alot more helpful

As far as pricing goes.. Kevin over at Crackberry.com made a good point in the last round table pod cast... In the long run, 200 buck upfront for a cell phone isn't much over the 2 years/monthly charge..

Full retail is $489. Early upgrade is $199. New every 2 upgrade is $149 (New every 2 receives a $50 additional discount on any phone).

Early upgrade is 10 months into a 1 year contract, 20 months into a 2 year contract.

Upgrades require contract extensions.

Existing customers qualified only for the full retail still can't see the offering on the web site as an "upgrade", only as a new line. I don't know if that's an error or intentional. The CS reps seem to be clueless.

The practical difference is $50 and two to four months of waiting. You're eligible for "new every two" 24 months after initiation of a two year contract on a particular line. You're eligible for an early upgrade (losing the extra $50) once you've completed 10 months of a 12 month contract or 20 months of a 24 month contract. Your initial upgrade price is determined by how long a renewal you period you choose. In any case, you get the promotional rebate (if any).

Thank you. Now I understand it. I may go with a one year contract on the Tour as a result even though I am eligible for the new every 2.

If you login to MyVerizon online, then put it in your shopping cart, you see the lower price. If you're a long time Verizon customer -- VIP, you might get an additional discount.
