Default reboot and auto on/off

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

For the health of my 9900's battery, I would like to do the following:
- have my phone switch off when I sleep
- use that time (just before, during or after) for it to reboot
- minimize the number of time I have to enter my SIM code

I could not find out how to combine both.

I did program the built-in auto on/off to have the phone turn off at night. Besides it asking again for the SIM code at wake-up, works ok.

But could then not combine this with auto-reboot (QuickPull or Reboot Device). auto-reboot seems not to work when off (not so surprisingly). And if I reboot before the auto-off, it waits for me to enter the SIM code and will not then go to auto-off.

Any possibility?

thx!

BTW: are such auto-reboot applications doing anything more than ctr-alt-del, besides scheduling?

I think the auto-reboot apps are at best not doing any harm. I don't use one and never have. As far as how they "reboot" the device, my understanding is they trigger the same restart process that the device does after an app install or removal.

I also believe you would be better off charging the device while you sleep. There is no need to turn it off.

What are you calling the SIM code? The device password?

Charging while I sleep is the smartest option indeed. As I usually charge via my computer and don't have much convenient location for powerplug charging I am working around with the switch off.

Yes, by SIM I meant device password.

Would the ctrl-alt-del do the same as the reboot? I that case I would stop wondering about that issue and just uninstall the auto-reboot SW.

yes it is what those apps do.

I charge mine while I sleep and on the way home from work in my vehichle. nice ot wake up with fresh full charge.

I pull the battery once evey 2 days or so. I have tried some apps but the free ones pop up ads and I like to try before I buy. I know some that use quick pull with good results.

My opinion on resetting the device, how, when etc....

The ctrl-right caps-del soft reset corrects a lot of problems. The hard reset (battery pull) corrects most problems. With experience you develop a sense when you need to do a battery pull and when a soft reset will be enough.

I never reset my device unless there is a problem. No prophylactic reboots. And I almost never do hard resets.

My advice when something weird is happening is to try a soft reset first. If the weird problem is still there, then try the hard reset.

thank you all. Thought reboot was a good prophylactic thing to do, at least to clean up memory leaks. Will now just go on a moderate crt-alt-del regime...
