Question help with loading a backup

Please Login to Remove!

starting this off- any ansewr you give me, please dumb down the tech side so i understand you...

a few weeks ago my bb8300 was stolen with my sim card.
i got a new bb8310 to replace it as well as a new sim card.

one of my coworkers explained that i should hook the bb8310 to my computer in the future to back up my address book (i lost almost 10yrs worth of business contacts) yes- i know i am stupid to not have backed it up before.

Unbeknowst to me, my former assistant must have conected my old BB to my laptop, bc when we backed up the new bb and searched for the file, i found a file named just the same "back up-(date).ipd" but with a date from last november as well as the file from that day.

when i try to open the back up file my pc tells me that it has no program to open it. (btw i have vista)

how do i figure out if my address book is in that file, and HOW DO I GET IT OUT!!?? please help me.

You need to install Desktop Manager then use the backup/restore feature to restore that file. Click on Restore then go up to "file" and choose that file and it will restore that to your BB.

If for some reason you aren't able to load the backup (you should be able to by following John Clark's advice), you can also download a program called "ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter 6.10" to view the backup .IPD file on your pc.

It will then let you export the contacts to excel or (if you register the program), straight to outlook.

I had to do this to fix some calendar issues I was having. More info on the converter here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-problems.html
