You could title them personal or Business then use filter to seperate but not seperate contact lists

Address Book filters will do that, bbkat.

You can create new filters, too. Such as one for family, business, etc.,

Great! Found Filter and understand how it works but how do I assign a contact to a Personal or Business filter?

Edit the contact, scroll down to Categories > Menu > Categories and assign.

Thanks I'll try that.

Meanwhile I searched the board for other options and found this post: From the BES Admin Corner >> Filtering Multiple Contact Folders

So basically if I do filters and sync with MS Outlook, only what's filtered won't sync. Am I reading this correctly?

That will not work on BIS.

I don't know what BES is so I suppose I'm not. But it still raises the question of syncing filtered contacts. Will there be a problem when I sync with Outlook?

The Categories info will sync back to Outlook.

You can't "hide" contacts from Outlook by setting the Category, no.

Also if you have to do this with a lot of your contacts or are implementing this organization system for the first time, I recommend doing it first in Outlook (or whatever program handles your computer contacts).

You can change outlook to a view mode that makes it very easy to go through and change the category for each contact. Then when you sync back up, you will have all the contacts in proper categories in your BB.
