not sure if this is accurate, and i am still rooting for rim to come up with a bold-sized device with better specs compatible with at&t's newer (4g?) network. may be a pipe dream?

Did you check the Rumors section? A few new devices are on the horizon, but I don't recall if they are 4G or not.

I guess the real question is what is the real need for speed?

i'm a business at&t 9000 bold customer but i actually use its browser to look up things when (eg) i'm traveling. (i also use google local or google maps to find locations.) i have been assuming that a bold-like device compatible with a newer faster network would make such browsing correspondingly faster, and that would make the device more desirable and more valuable to me

PS, checked rumors and (somewhat redundantly) posted RIMxxx8217;s 2011 BlackBerry lineup | BGR | Boy Genius Report at the end of this thread:

a 9700 on OS 5 has a laggy browser even on wifi.
a 9700 on OS 6 has a good browser that isnt very laggy on 3G

Sometimes its not the speed or hardware, it is the software.
but the newer CPU chould also help too with speed.
