Hello.
I have my 9700 since January and I have been updating the OS every time a new one comes out, but I think every time I load a new OS the BB takes more to boot up!.
Maybe it is taking the same time as ever but I still think it's to much time.
There is any way to reduce this long waiting time or it is completely normal?
There is any possibility that with the update any piece of the older OS is remaining and making the BB slow to boot?
I will appreciate any help.

Curious as to how often you need to actually reboot your phone? I rarely have to so the time it takes is no real big deal.

I reboot it every time an app install/unistall require it.

Check to make sure you aren't running any unnecessary apps in the background that are loading when you do a fresh boot.

Thats normal. I havent heard of a blackberry that boots up fast...

It's not normal. It's poor OS design by RIM.
Most of our devices boot in a matter of 60-90 seconds. (8300 series).

Things started to go to crap for us starting with OS 4.6.
Devices with 15 minute boot times such as the 9000 and 9630 is just painful.
My 9700 took about 13-14 minutes to boot. Ridiculous.

My 9800 boots in under 2 minutes.

Its a real pain. If you want to try out what the app store offers, installing an app from there / and removing it can take 30 minutes.

The OS was not designed for this.
If an application runs in the background, there is no way (for security reasons ?) it can be killed.
The OS and the filesystem is compressed. Decompressing and verifying takes time.
When the system starts, first, the JVM has to be loaded, and then the actual OS will start.

I would not call it poor design, its rather a very clever one, but I think it was never designed for toying around with it.
I RIM wants to make the blackberry more fun, this is something which must be improved.

I meant that the versions of the OS which experienced long boot times are poorly designed.
Quite simply, there's no reason for a 15 minute boot up. That's not clever at all.
Older OS versions did not experience this issue, and newer versions do not either.

Agreed. I began with the 8300 series and is speedy to reboot in comparison to the 9700 even when is at the minimum of software. More memory will not resolve the issue. Is the OS turning against the machine?

I would have thought that anything longer than about 2-3 minutes to boot up is not normal.
If my 9700 took 15 minutes to boot, it would be in the rubbish bin.

my 30 minutes result from the experience that, when you install an application, and the machine needs a reboot, those 2-5 minutes take that long, that I am start to do something else during this time, because waiting and, staring that the not moving progress bar ist no fun.

So, it will take aboiut 15 minutes until i can actually try out, what I have downloaded.
If I dont like it, I remove it, and, the process of reboot starts again.
then, its about 30+ minutes later.

During this time, I cannot receive any calls, since, the device sits there, awaiting the input of the PIN of the sim-card.

This it not only no fun at all, but will make me think twice or even more, before I install anything.

i now took the stopwatch.
A reboot took 9 minutes and 30seconds (!)

There is nothing special (like background apps, the ony huge thing is telmap5) installed on the device: BB9700, 5.0.0.862, about 90mb free,
Memory compression enabled.

Database sizes about 16MB.

So, my 30minutes for installing and removing an application are realistic.
