Default Which Network Technology to use?

Please Login to Remove!

Under Manage Connections/Mobile Network Options/Network Technology there are three options: 1) GSM/UMTS, 2) 1XEV, 3) Global. Which is the best to use? My experience (in USA) indicates less battery consumption on my VZ 9530 using 1XEV vs Global, while GSM/UMTS won't connect to network in my area. For what purpose are each of these intended? Thanks

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

I don't know what you mean by asking their intentions. It is to bring us wireless service... No?

Anyways, GSM is a technology that uses sim cards.interchangable in all GSM phone assuming they are unlocked. GSM is a higher power and THEORETICALLY faster than CDMA. However, it is so overused that it seems slower

CDMA is a lower powered Technology using less battery and theoretically slower network. Two main carriers in the US(Sprint/verizon) although here in chicago, another big on is USCC. GSM has 2 main companies in the US as Wekk(T-mobile and ATT)

How's this for you??

What I was trying to say is, how do you chose which of the three to use? From what you indicated there is a speed/battery drain trade-off for each.

I assume 3G is only for WiFi which VZ 9530 does not support, correct?

Aslso, what is the Mobile Network Selection Mode (automatic/home) for?

Thanks much for responding.

Use the original setting that was on the phone when you got it and if you are on Verizon - most likely 1xEV

That's what prompted me to post here - I've played around with settings so much I can't remember the original

I like to cover my bases and ensure I don't have a surprise when my bill arrives.
I think your carrier uses CDMA and 1XEV, select those settings. The other selections enable the global settings that will let you connect to other carriers running GMS technology. These carriers will charge a roaming fee and your bill will reflect the cost.

For Verizon use 1XEV. I seem to recall reading on the forum that if you select Global your battery charge will deplete faster as the phone searches for other types of networks.

3G has absolutely nothing to do with wi-fi.

Have the settings to 1XEV only if you stay in US or Canada(the phone will not search for other types of network, so will save some battery life)... If you travel to Europe, Middle East, Africa, or Australia and Asia use Global. If you are in a Place where there is no Vodaphone coverage use a local SIM card and set the phone (if unlocked) to GSM mode.
Hope that answers your question...
