Question What are these weird Blackberry files? (20140114-180839-420_00.txt)

Please Login to Remove!

I have found in my Blackberry Curve 9380 multiple weird and suspicious files with this content:

[2014-01-15 09:31:59.090][DEBUG]USBConnection open() Registration succeeded!~
[2014-01-15 09:31:59.092][DEBUG]USBConnection open() Waiting for connection from desktop...~

The files has similar names to this:

20140114-180839-420_00.txt

Looking in Google does not return any useful information. I just get links to www dot cfreds dot nist dot gov (can't post urls to the forum) that seems logs extracted with Cellebrite hardware from Blackberry devices. But I can not find any useful information about source and rationale of these logs.

Where are these logs from? Could be these logs an indicator of malware activity on my Blackberry?

Your too worried about files that seem to be simple log notations on USB connection status.
You did not indicate if this is a corporate BB but depending on the various logs your company wants it could be one of them.
Blackberry offers no information on these.

The other possibility is your under watch by the guys with dark glasses.

Anyone can confirm this? I also would like to know if these logs can appear if the Blackberry has never been connected to a PC or, in the other hand, if the existence of these logs confirms that the BB has been connected to a PC in some moment in the past. In order to not influence your answers I have omitted the following information but I'm analyzing this BB asked by a person that thinks that he/she is being spyed through the BB so I would like to confirm without doubt that these logs are not an evidence of the BB being connected to a PC before.

No, it is not a corporate BB.

It isn't malware. Probably normal logging of some nature as tsac suggests. I wouldn't worry about it at any rate.

Also, for what it is worth, the device may not be a corporate BlackBerry, but if you got it secondhand it may have a policy on it. Just saying. May have nothing to do with those files.

Other than covering the users head in aluminum foil the only indication your showing is a log file created which indicates the BB has been connected to a PC at some point. The time stamp should give you information on when. the numbers you have indicate it was in the morning.
The USB jack on the BB cannot wirelessly be connected so it must have been either in someone else's hands or the user left it un attended.

If the user is unable to watch for the guys in dark glasses I would suggest a wipe and reload of the users info.
Do a backup first. If anyone offers to help in dark glasses simply say no.
