Default Extra digits in voicemail # on Nextel 7520

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, for a couple months now, blackberries at my company will randomly get extra digits added to the end of their voicemail phone number. usually its a 2. sometimes just one digit, sometimes more. It seems completely random, I have not been able to dertermine what causes it. If you go in and edit their voicemail number to remove the digits, they will usually come back the next day. The only solution i have found is to backup their blackberry, wipe/reload the OS/software on the blackberry, and then selectively just restore their email, contacts, and call logs.

This is with Nextel 7520s using the latest blackberry OS/software for the device. Anyone have any clues as to what is going on, or maybe atleast a simpler fix?

I have had this problem since i got the nextel almost a year ago. Cust svc has not offered any solution or even recognition of the problem. The only way it seems to go away is to access your email via another phone. Afterwards (it usually) is back to normal. Also, during this (whatever it is) some calls are missed.

Go into their voicemail options and change the number to what it should be, then click save. Immediatly pull out the battery. That's right, after you hit save, pull the battery out. Holdn down the power button for 20 seconds with the battery out of the unit. Then put the battery back in. Works everytime.

Jmanford's solution does indeed do the trick. We have experianced this with many of our 7520 phones. In fact I've found it pointless to edit the voicemail phone number first. Simply pull the battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then replace the battery.

I am having the same issues with some of my handhelds. It is driving me crazy. Even replacing the equipment does not do the trick. So far I have only seen it on my 7520 users. Right now you can try changing the voicemail number but it does not save. I will have to try jmanford's trick.

This happens to me all the time. All I do to fix it is pull the battery.

Default Extra Digit added on voicemail number

Thanks for the tip - yes simply removing the battery cleared up the extra digit in the voice mail number. This extra digit was added either when I dialed voice mail automatically or manually typed the number in to call.

With Nextel the voicemail number is usually

AREACODE+Prefix+MAIL

So if your number was 214-555-1212 your voicemail number would be 214-555-MAIL

Not sure how the extra digits got in there but if you ever have to re-do your voicemail. That's how to do it.
