UMA question
Please Login to Remove!
Alright, I'm considering one of the unlocked Rogers for use here on TMO USA. I know the phone has UMA capability, but is there anything with the Rogers that ties it to their 'home' service?
I don't use tmo@home, but I do have wireless at my house, work, bars, etc which I have setup on my 8120 right now so i can make calls via UMA when I am in signal (save on minutes)... if anyone can clear this up I would appreciate it. Thanks guys...

I can't really answer your question regarding Rogers "Home" Service - but it's officially announced that the 8900 is coming to TMO in February, I would suggest you wait it out for a month, get the TMO 8900 and you're all set and don't have to worry about any potential issues with Rogers 8900.
I will be definitely upgrading to the 8900, I just hope the 2/year contract price is reasonable.

The only way to use T-Mobile's UMA service is to have a T-Mobile branded BlackBerry. You can not use a Rogers unlocked BB and get UMA to work on it.

As of 48 hours ago, GT5L has made a Rogers 8900 work on UMA.
Suffice to say, I doubt very much if any one else here has done it.

GT5L, I can't find the thread you created about the UMA working with T-Mobiile on a Rogers branded device, was it removed or am I having issues finding it?

I can say that a T-Mobile USA branded 8900 works perfectly on UMA. I have tried a few things with varied success on an unbranded 8900, though it doesn't withstand a battery pull.

What about using tmo UMA when you're traveling overseas? Could I connect to wifi in my hotel and make calls? Are there charges? I already have unlimited data which is fabulous
