Default bb 8900 out of the country help. .

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a blackberry 8900 off of someone, i didn't reset it or anything. I just put my simcard inside of it and thats it , my account is prepaid because i don't live in the U.S i live in the Dominican Republic and i'm leaving later on this week. I was wondering if when i go out there when i unlock my code, will the PIN work in that country? or do i have to call tmobile and tell them i'm using the phone out of the country. i've been serching on google and some people say the owner has too call and drop the pin from some server. but i'm not sure if when i go too D.R. since i unlock it it'll work automatically.

any help? please .. .

I think they are correct, they need to relieve the PIN of the original owner, and then unlock the phone and all the features should work for you.

But that's my guess since I've never done it, only read up some on it.

I'd hope so but if t-mobile is telling you that the original owner needs to call, I'd call them (the owner) up and tell them there is indeed a NEED for them to call and drop the PIN.

i hope sooo too.. .
this is off topic but i was checking online how to unlock a bb and when i was looking at the steps it showed a picture of what it should say if it is unlocked and my phone is exactly like that. but i asked the owner and she said she has never unlocked it. so i'm not sure if i can trust it , becuase i was gonna buy an unlock code and do it myself for when i leave out the country not have too pay over theere for them to do it.

Do you know what network she was on?

I have never unlocked a phone before, unfortunately.

Feel free, I'll do what I can and if I'm incorrect, I'd pray someone correct me. haha

I'm not fully sure you need to unlock the phone. Just have her drop the PIN and call t-mobile and pick the pin up. NOT completely positive with that though.

Wirelessly posted

I've got an 8900 on T-Mobile in the US and had a problem when I took it to the UK recently. I purchased a T-Mobile prepaid (top-up) SIM in London but the phone would,kt recognize the SIM until I called T-Mobile US and requested an unlock code. After unlocking the phone it wouldn't recognize any money on the pre-paid card, in other words I put 10 pounds on the card but my 8900 thought it had a 0 balance. I could successfully use the same SIM in a different phone, just not an 8900.

So I don't have any answer for you as I was never able to get this to work, but I would recommend that you do a bit more digging before you go. This was pretty frustating as my previous Pearl 8100, also on T-Moble, worked like a champ with a UK pre-paid card.

Good luck to you!
