Default Blackberry Maps

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, new here and have found a lot of good info. I do have a question though. When I purchased my 9700 it was stated that blackberry maps was included as part of the gps option, however I can't seem to find it anywhere on my phone. Is it part of an app that should be loaded already, do I need to load the app or is it really not considered real time gps and is something else?

Thanks

Last I heard, AT&T were blocking blackberry maps.
I believe this may still be the case.

yes bb maps does come with current os for the 9700.you will find it but not the icon on the phone.i too am on att and you can get bb maps to work on the 9700.i do.but you need to go to rims mobile website to download section and where it says download bb maps click on link. the link installs a lbs ribbon to your phone .once the ribbon is on the phone reboot it. the icon should then be there on homescreen (or maybe in downloads)on the phone.you need to do this ota.ie from your phones browser. website is : mobile.blackberry.com

First of all, please do not double post in different sections of the forum.

Second, please use the SEARCH feature above for additional information and possible solutions There are several threads about ATT blocking BB Maps.

You should be able to download and install Googlemaps.

Thanks for the warm welcome. First of all being new here I did not realize that there was a section dedicated to gps, if I had I would have started my thread there.

Second, I'm sure that not every member reads this particular area of the forum since it is specific to the 9700. Maybe they have some information that could be helpful, since I understand that this is not just an issue with 9700's. I didn't see it as a double post. But your fourm your rules.

I guess I could use googlemaps, but then it would defeat the purpose of having a blackberry and wanting to use the app that blackberry supports and provides.

Down loaded blackberry maps from the mobile blackberry page from my browser. Installed the lbs file. Went to desktop manager and used the add app deal. checked the box beside blackberry maps. Says its there but still no icon after rebooting. Did this three times still no icon.

Any ideas? anyone?

I can go to the settings page click options, then applications, then "add on" from drop down and Blackberry Maps is listed. But there is no icon anywhere on the phone.

Help

Actually, I like Googlemaps much better and it uses cell tower triangulation to locate you while GPS is connecting.

I might give that a try also. I had to buy and download quick launcher to get blackberry maps to work. Icon would not load no matter what I did.

Default Missing Blackberry Apps

Hiya

There is a launcher file that you can use to prompt the Bold 9700 to load and install the Blackberry Maps. However I use the 9700 and to be frank Google maps is much better and speedier a solution. The launcher is called bbmapslauncher.jad - just google it and you will find a link.

Regards
Martin

speedier?!?!?! google maps is SLOW!!! BBMaps is much faster, but doesnt use the same database so it sometimes doesnt find what your looking for. it also lacks layers and satellite view. but i keep both installed and use both equally
