Angry BB 8830. My powerbook doesn't recognize it

Please Login to Remove!

I have two apple computer. one is powerbookG4, the other one is ibook.

PowerBookG4 does not recognize BB. If I want to sync by using PocketMac, I have to plug and unplug like five times (USB) and then it works but still on desktop, G4 doesn't recognize it.

iBookG4 also doesn't recognize BB and on BB, "USB charging current is not sufficient. Verify that your handheld is connected to a pwoered USB charging source and that the proper USB driver is intalled" message is showing.

I want to use Media function of BB but I guess I cannot? "media manager for BB" is for PC user...Right?

I spent SO SO SO much time trying to fix and figure out BB8830 and I am getting so tired of BB. Honestly, I spent more than 5 hrs on customer service so far for two weeks. I had sync problem, freeze problem, not-calling problem, interenet problem...and I had to exchange to new one. It seems like one problem after another one...

Can u please help me how to transfer music, document files to BB? uuuugh

I don't think the problem is with your Blackberry. I had the same problem with PocketMac not always starting up or starting a sync when I would connect my Blackberry. Like you, it would typically work once out of every four or five tries. I switched to MissingSync and have had flawless syncs since then.

As for not showing up on your desktop, do you have a memory card installed in your Blackberry? I am guessing you do not. The Blackberry itself won't show up on the desktop, but the memory card will.

I think that's pretty clearly a USB issue with your iBook. Different peripherals need different amounts of DC power in order to work. Obviously, charging a Blackberry is going to take a lot more power than, say, turning on the green light on a jump drive. My guess is that your iBook's USB port simply isn't delivering enough power to charge the Blackberry, though you may still be able to sync with it.

My advice is to get a microSD memory card and MissingSync and you will find that it is very easy. In MissingSync, you simply check which document folders and iTunes playlists you want synchronized to your Blackberry when you connect.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Mark/Space, the makers of Missing Sync. I am just an end-user who thinks it's a fantastic program.

Default Thank you so much for reply

I thought it was impossible to use my blackberry but now it seems there is hope! I was so close to return it. I cannot even explain how frustrated I am with this machine... I am being techno-illiterate does not help much.

I downloaded the missing sync for blackberry. It seems it has one version 1.0.1.. and I guess I have to pay $40.00. I don't mind paying for it but I wonder there is other program I can run on Panther. My G4 has panther and My ibook has Tiger. MissingSync runs only on Tiger and my G4(Panther) is my main computer. Do you have any suggestion?

I am going to buy SD card tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes! Thank you again for your reply!

I don't know of any programs other than PocketMac and Missing Sync. I guess you will have to use your iBook for syncing.

Update:

An Apple technical support expert with whom I spoke this morning acknowledges there appears to be a incompatibility between OS 10.4.10 and the BlackBerry 8100.

Since installing the update, I get the "USB charging current" message; on the Pearl, this does not allow me to sync my device with Mark/Space's Missing Sync. I get a similar message when plugging in the '8700, but I can still proceed with the sync with Entourage.

No word on when/if this will be addressed by Apple, or RIM.

I don't get it. I'm running 10.4.10 and have had no problems syncing and charging my BB 8100 via Missing Sync.

I just got my 8830 and cant get it to connect at all. I have been a long time missing sycn user on Palm and WM. I have a powerbook G4 10.4.10, before I installed MS I would get the battery error problem before the install of MS... So hopefully the issue with not being able to sync will be solved soon.

Just an update I was setting up the 8830 to be used as a DUN with BT on my powerbook, at the time I had it plugged in via USB cable to charge it off the computer, and randomly missing sync booted up and worked. I then unplugged it and tried it again and bam missing sync started right up and synced perfectly.
