Default Did Alltel finally give us MMS?

Please Login to Remove!

Can't figure out how to get MMS to work on your Alltel 8100 series now that Alltel has released the long-awaited MMS fix? Instructions below.

Instructions-

1. Find the sticky at the top of this section for the most recent OS for your device model. Follow the steps within the sticky to upgrade.

2. When finished with OS upgrade, go to Applications(menu key) > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Menu Key > Register Now. Soon enough you should be seeing a registration notification in your inbox, as well as 2 new MMS-related service books in Applications > Options > Advanced Options > Service Books. You should also see "Compose MMS" when hitting the menu key in a message folder, "MMS contactnamehere" when you hit the menu key on a contact name, and "MMS" in Applications > Options which lets you change several MMS settings.

3. If you are still not able to send/compose MMS on your device...and/or the 2 MMS-related service books are not showing in the service book list, do a battery pull or try the second step again at a later time or in another area that offers better reception. You could also try deleting the MMS service books(if they are there), pull battery, and try resending your service books. If you're running 4.3 OS, then this may be your problem and you should upgrade.

Known conflicts with MMS so far-

-Docs To Go on 8300 series devices can possibly cause MMS to not function properly. The fix was removing Docs To Go. Thanks to user "livspop" for pointing this out.

-In order to send a video clip via MMS, the video must be recorded in "MMS Mode (176x144)" on your BlackBerry. You can change this setting by going to Applications > Options > Video Camera > Menu Key > Options > Video Format. You can not send videos via MMS if they were recorded in "Normal (240x176)", as other users have reported. Thanks to user "TroyDBrown" for pointing this out.

-Some users have reported that MMS works with 4.3 OS, and others reported that it does not work with 4.3 OS. It is highly recommended that you upgrade to the most recent OS available for your device because of all the fixes, updates, compatibility for newer software, etc. You can find the most recent OS in the stickies at the top of this section, just navigate to the one meant for your device model. The OS may not be from your service provider, but it will work just fine.

So far all I know is that I can send an MMS containing nothing but a single picture to another Alltel user that owns a Razr V3Ms. The picture was taken with my 8130 about a week ago, and was saved on my miniSD.

Later on, when time permits, I'll try to send various other file formats to people with other phones and service providers...and post my reports on this thread.

If anyone has any info about this, feel free to post it up!

EDIT: My buddy that owns an Alltel 8130 says he does not have the same options I do. I.E...when you go to your inbox, hit the menu key...he doesn't see Compose MMS. Same for hitting the menu key on a contact. It turns out he still has the original 4.3 OS that came on his pearl. I'm having him update to the newest OS for the 8130, which is what I have.

If alltel claims they have not released this fix, then what would explain why I'm able to use MMS now? Was the fix included with the 4.5.0.77(101) OS?

Pardon me. I forgot this is the message board with the most unforgiving, snide posters. Poor wording on my part. Should have said "some more" information. Just trying to be helpful...

Have you deleted Docs To Go? My 8330 wouldn't receive MMS until I deleted Docs To Go. There's a conflict.

Updated first post with instructions on how to get MMS on your device.

If anyone has any revised/better instructions, troubleshooting tips, known conflicts with other apps, etc...then please post them up and I will add it to the first post.

Still haven't noticed any problems or limitations with this new MMS. I've sent all sorts and sizes of pictures, audio files, pretty much everything I could send except video.

I don't have any video clips on my phone, I'll need to record a little clip in order to have one to send out. I'll edit this post once I find out if it works or not with video.

Looks like RIM & Alltel did good this time around. This fix should be flawless, considering it took them both a year or so to accomplish this.

Be sure to record your video in MMS mode with the camera to get the correct size file.

This explains why I had trouble sending video via MMS. Didn't know that function was there. Thanks for the tip Troy.

Recorded a 5 second video clip, in MMS mode(video camera > menu key > options), sent it to my friend's razr v3ms and they received it about 1 minute later. Works perfectly.

Does anyone know if there are size limits for sending media files?
