Personally, I turn it off when I know I am not at home near my router or going to be using wifi. I think it may be better on the battery if turned off and not in use (not sure though).

Yea it should be better on the BB if you turn it off...it will still drain the battery a bit. I always turn mine off when I am not near a router or something that I can hook up to

I use UMA at home and office, and so my WiFi is always on.
Still my battery survives more than two days.
FYI, I have only a few voice calls day. I use BB more for browsing and email.

I have trained myself to turn Wi-Fi off and on when I leave home and return. My battery life is a lot better now that I am doing this. So, definitely turn it off and you should see improvement in battery life.

Yes you can, provided you can find a free or unprotected wifi network to connect to. That's what I'm doing. No data plan here.

I leave my wi-fi on as well for internet use as I still prefer using edge for the phone. Battery life is fine UNTIL I start using my jawbone 2! Holy cow! Does anyone else notice that their battery is like 50% down after one short conversation and just having the jawbone connected for like an hour?

Thanks for the info.

In that case, it might be worthwhile to leave the Wi-Fi on occasionally to find open networks, so you know they're available if you need them. I don't know how the wireless network scanner works, of course, so if you have to enter a known SSID and there's no notification that there's a network nearby or anything like that, then this wouldn't apply.

Thats the only drawback I see to the 8310. I have a data plan with AT&T so it's not huge if I get one.

what i would do after using it so it wont drain my battery is turn it off but thats really all up to you. you dont want to walk around half the day your phone scanning for a wifi connection and next thing you know your battery is dead when you need it .
