BlackBerry Bluetooth Watch

Anyone catch a glimpse of this off CrackBerry? I got the update via Viigo
Looks nifty! not as good looking as the Sony Ericsson analog/digital number with the stainless steel wrist-strap but still snazzy looking
Thought?

If your too lazy to even take your BB out of your own holster to check your email, there is a problem.
My 2 cents.. But I suppose their has to be a market for such an item if someone is going to produce right?

I know what you mean. I used to have a chum who kept his mobile stowed away in a number of bags and boxes, so as not to scratch it. He eventually bought a bluetooth headset, only to minimise the times when he would have to touch his phone.
I didn't point out to him that he was touching his bluetooth headset.

As a motorcyclist, I can see a use for it.
Quick glance at the wrist to determine whether incoming message or phone call is worth pulling off to the side of the road to address it.
I do, however, agree with you. I don't think this product will succeed.

There is indeed a legitimate use for a bluetooth headset, in much the same way that there's obviously a need for a BlackBerry smartphone.
That said, the chum in question was just obsessed with scratches on his mobile. Anyway, it's a while since we talked. He'll undoubtedly have a BB now. In a soft carry case. In a box.

To be honest i do see a market for this however i have to admit it is a specialist market.
For example i work in a call centre and it's a strict policy of no mobiles out at all - even though when your Blackberry is holstered in its leather pocket with the LED indicator going away you can tell when you have a message/call or not however you can hide away your phone no problem and still access your messages, emails & PIN's from your watch
Can't exactly make a policy for not looking at your watch!! I suppose this will more be like an enterprise novelty (Can't take your phone out however can glance at your watch to keep up to date)
I see the point of it - not available in the UK yet

That's pretty rough.. I'd consider finding a new job if my employer was that strict... I have a BlackBerry for many reasons one of those reasons is incase of emergency...
And if all the employees got this watch then you can bet they would re-write policy

Sounds like it's built for busy people. That's me out then Like many others I doubt it'll do well, it'll be one of those products people laugh at when they see someone wearing.

Agreed... until Honda decides that fully implemented Bluetooth is a legitimate option for my bike, I would love to have something like this. It would be handy, as you indicated, to glance at my watch for updates.
Now if Honda would just replace the analog displays with digital ones, and give be Bluetooth and iPod integration, I would be even more thrilled than I am now with my bike. Then I wouldn't bother with a watch such as this.

I worked in a call center with the same issue no phone could even be seen if you had it in a holster you had to remove that and put it in a bag.
As to usefullness of the watch I'd prefer when I'm in a meeting that people glance at a watch over whipping out a phone and looking at the screen. Way to often the temptation to answer over comes people and they end up tapping away on the phone while we are discussing a current project or some such.

BlackBerry Bluetooth Watch & Video remote gateway coming?
RIM are preparing a number of new Bluetooth accessories, including a new headset codenamed “Alpha 1xxx8243;, an in-car handsfree kit and, possibly, a Bluetooth watch and video-capable remote gateway. BlackBerry accessories VP Antoine Boucher sat down with the BGR at WES to discuss his department’s latest wares, and they couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth watch; after some prompting, Boucher admitted that his team had modified the timepiece to display BlackBerry alerts.
These included alerts when new emails, BlackBerry Messenger messages, texts, IMs, tweets and Facebook messages are received. When pressed on whether RIM was developing their own Bluetooth watch, the VP would only say that his team “are exploring many accessories that would surprise people.”
Similarly, Boucher hinted that RIM are developing a next-gen version of the company’s Remote Stereo Gateway, the Bluetooth-enabled audio streaming box that allows music on a Blackberry to be wirelessly played through a stereo system. The new device would allow for wireless video playback across a Bluetooth connection.
While those two devices are only possible, RIM did confirm two more mainstream Bluetooth accessories. “Alpha 1xxx8243; is an over-the-ear headset with a molded in-ear bud, slightly smaller than the Jawbone PRIME and with a dial/hangup button and dedicated power control. It can be used for voice calls, mono music playback and listening to voice-command controlled GPS apps, and RIM are looking at future upgrades to support text-to-speech and vice-versa.
Finally, the Bluetooth Vehicle Visor Mount – seen at CES 2009 – is on target for a June/July 2009 release, and will have both Bluetooth hands-free functionality and an integrated FM transmitter to pipe music on the smartphone to the car’s stereo. No word on pricing, however

Wouldn't all these BlueTooth accessories be limited by the BlueTooth Standard v2.1 itself?
I mean I have Stereo Gateway and I really love it, but I do wish the sound quality was better. Now even with direct LOS I can hear static very faintly, My hunch is that is do the way BT works while it transfers the data.
