Default Tour tethering on Sprint Network

Please Login to Remove!

OK I have tried setting up a DUN connection while running DM in the background and it just doesn't see the phone.
Is there anything else I should be checking?

Smartview 2.25.0047.0 doesnt work either tried it. Also Verizon connection Manager no longer works it did till the other day.

Any Ideas or suggestions anyone ?

To make this work properly you have to do the following:

Options>memory>auto enable mass storage mode when connected>select yes

Now it should work

If you look in Device Manager, do you see a Standard Modem under Modems if I am correct (of course, make sure the phone is plugged in).

Otherwise, pull the battery out and try it again. I had to do this on mine a few weeks ago...

For tethering the Tour you should just need to have the device drivers installed (usually via Desktop Manager) and then start up SmartView. Wait until the device shows 'no device detected', connect the device, wait, and then you should have an option to 'click to connect'

OK I did exaclty what you suggested and when I click on connect I get a pop up that says ------ " Multiple connections are not allowed. Please disconnect your existing connection before continuing. "

What would cause this? I do have the new BB DM 5.01 installed should I uninstall it ?
Thanks,
I'm almost there !!!!!!

If your laptop is connected another way - either wired or wireless - it gets in the way.

I always disable my wireless connection when tethering. Give that a try and see if it helps.

OK I disabled the wireless thanks that was the problem but now I get
Error Error 678
The remote computer did not respond. Blah blah blah -- to help resolve your problem Click here and then you get a help page

Possible causes
Poor signal

Network resources are unavailable

Recommendation
If indoors, move closer to a window, exterior wall or a higher level. Reorienting the computer/wireless device may help as well

Wait 30 seconds and try to connect again.

Ok any other ideas ?
Thanks,
Joe

When I first started tethering Sprint BB's I would get that for some of my users. I fixed it by having Sprint either re-provision the PAM (phone as modem) feature on the cell# or remove and re-add the BB data plan.

Do both options need a call to Sprint ? Also if feature was never added to begin with will they add it without additional costs ? ( I had to ask :P)

BTW I just checked Sprint and they now list the Smartview 2.25.0047.0 software there

Sprint has changed their plan and you need to have a separate plan ($15) for tethering (phone as modem). I learned that after I got error 678. I had to change my plan to get tethering. It's no longer included in the anything data

I use PDAnet with the Tour on Sprint. It works fine. The program costs $25-29 no big deal.

Do they allow it on Simply Everything now? When I first moved to Sprint in Sept 2008, they wouldn't do it. Then I tried it as I read it might work without charge, and it did. Recently, like everyone else, it seems to have stopped working. If they will add it for $15 I would be happy to pay them!

I tried the same thing but Sprint will not allow you to have a tethering plan if you have "everything data" or "simply everything" plan. If you want to have the $15 tethering plan, you need to have a separate voice plan and a separate data plan, then the $15 tethering. Which means you won't be able to have "any mobile any time".

The more threads I read about Sprint tethering/PAM/Phone As Modem, the more I realize that people invent their own reality... Just call Customer Care!

Sprint does indeed offer PAM with their Everything Data plans. I have a 6-line account with Sprint, 5 with the Everything Data and tethering works like a dream. As I've stated in previous posts, I'm connected anywhere from 8-12 hours/day (depending on my health.)

As far as the Simply Everything plan, there used to be a restriction, but over the last few months I have known individuals who have been allowed to elect the $15/mo add-on. Perhaps this was approved for them as an option since the "crackdown" on casual use has become so widespread.

Additionally, Error 678 refers to things other than what's listed in the Help section after receiving it. I know that people who have been using PAM, but not paying for the service, are now receiving the error; also, people who don't have the proper BB drivers installed while using Windows Vista will get this too.

Hope this helps someone - anyone...

Smartview tethering is no longer supported on non business accounts.
Nice of them to let us know.

Well, we had a meeting with Our Sprint Rep yesterday and I asked him questions on tethering. He said the plans had changed and now require $15 additional payment for tethering.
He also said In the past it was basically allowed for free but now they're cracking down and charging.

It's possible you may get a reduced tether rate depending on how many cells you have with them. He said we might be able to get tethering for $10 per phone which would be a lot better then $50 a month for a Sierra wireless aircard. Even better we can tether 4 phones for the price of 1 Aircard.....

BTW my Tour worked as a PAM for a few weeks but for over a week now it just wont work and I'm using the right drivers and all.
So the only thing I know for sure is the feature was disabled on Sprints end which I found out from by the Rep.
I just hope the Boss approves the $10-$15 additional per phone to use them as PAM's which I don't see it as a problem !

Default No go here

I just talked to a Sprint CSR. She said that Phone as modem (PAM) cannot be added to the Everything Data Share 1500 plan that I'm on. The best thing she could come up with would increase my monthly bill by over $65.00 per month.

Is it time to start looking at Verizon?
