From my experience so far, it has the finest sound quality I have ever had on a Blackberry. VERY pleased.

Is this with or without an attached headset (wired or BT)?

Have you tried to change the Enhance Call Audio settings while on a call?

While on a call, press the Blackberry menu key, and then select "Enhance Call Audio". You can then select Normal, Boost Bass, Boost Treble.

This is not the same setting as under Phone Options>Enhanced Audio>Automatic Volume Control.

Yup.... Voice quality is not as clear as previous bb's. I can hear fine, it's the people on the other line that say that I sound very muffled.

I am getting compliments on my voice quality - I've asked everyone I've spoken with. I think you have a lemon sean76.

Same here, my old 8830 is noticeably clearer than the 9630 Tour (I'm with Verizon) - tuning the enhance audio option to higher treble did help a bit, but it's very upsetting that phone makers across the board are cheapening the voice quality these days. I just retired an LG VX8700 that has the same muffled BS. It's downright unacceptable - one of those things that should never go backwards in progress. Also upsetting are the reviews from sites I usually trust that rave about voice / sound quality on the Tour; it looks like phonearena is the only site honest enough to post the truth. Well now that I'm stuck with it time to get a bluetooth headset.

The call quality is the one issue I'm very pleased with. It's very clear and no one that I've called has indicated differently.

You may have a faulty device. Have you considered returning it for a replacement?

Default Confirmed . Call quality is crap

I can confirm that after owning and using every blackberry ever made that call quality and speakerphone are pure crap on the Tour. The people in here that say otherwise are really not that perceptive (sorry). I tried calls from 3 tours in one verizon store and 2 in another and every person i called said the call quality was bad, speakerphone was worse. Dont quite understand rim on this one. The BB bold and BB 8900 and BB curve are all very good. For curiosity i tested the storm and it was also very poor!

Rim! what is going on. Are all new BB going down in quality?

after adjusting the boost treble i compared it to my 8830, the 8830 that i liked now sounds extremley harsh. i now prefer the Tour, the speaker phone is great also. on my 8830 i could not carry on a conversation because of dropouts and general poor quality. i did not have my headset with me today-called the wife and she thought i was in the office, i was driving!

I have to agree that I'm very, very dissapointed with the voice quality on the Tour . However, it seems to be a CDMA issue with these new Blackberrys. I say that because the Bold and 8900 are both new models, and there voice quality is A ok on at&t. I cant speak for Sprint BB's, because I have not used the Tour on there network yet, FYI- The Palm Pre that I tried was clear as a bell on both receiving and making calls on Sprint. So it may or may not be a network issue with VZW alone or both VZW & Sprint, or a network isssue with just CDMA BB's and not other devices, who knows? All I do know is that VZW has screwed up 2 new BB models being the Tour and the Storm, and I'm sure they are aware of this, as is RIM.

I'm also hoping that this may the case of a bad batch of Tours! Because many of the long time members in here are saying there Tour's voice quality is pretty good. Might have to take some of the other members word, and just do a swap and try another one out. Decide tomorrow when I go to VZW!

I just talked to my wife who was using an old Motorola cell phone and she was taxiing on a commercial aircraft in Philly and I am in a building in SW Florida, usuing my Tour. The sound was PERFECT, the best quality we both have experienced with cell phones. No muffled voices or anything like that.
Good job BlackBerry!

Wow, there are allot of differing opinions, ranging from the Tour being the best BB so far to call quality complaints. I think it has to do with your carrier, and perhaps in some cases a bad phone.

I just received my Tour from Verizon, replaced a Curve. When placing a call, there is background noise that was not there on my curve, hence I am taking it back to the store for a new one/replacement

Hi

I just bought a Blackberry from Sprint, and had my uncle bring it to England. I thought it was because i was on a GSM network that the sound is muffled on both ends. I looked up some other forums some people say you need to return the phone ( which i probably cant do) others say that you should play with the sound settings with the bass treble or somthing. finally the one that seems to work for others is to backup your phone then reset it totally to factory settings. I havnt tried any of these yet, but i will when i get the time
