Default SMS Question

Please Login to Remove!

How would I setup a SMS address in my 7100T?

Google has a new service (http://www.google.com/sms) that lets you SMS questions to the google site and you get the information in a reply.

The Google SMS Site says:

"Send the message to the US shortcode 46645 (GOOGL on most phones)."

How would this work on the blackberry? Do I setup a new address in my address book with 46645 in the mobile number field or do I need to do something else. I tried it that way and it fails when I try it.

I dont have my 7100t yet... but this is what i did with my Motorola v300 and I assume it will work just fine with a blackberry.

Do exactly as you described...

Input the number '46645' as the phone number (list it as Main/Mobile/etc)

and for the Name I personally put "Google SMS"

so everytime I text the GOOGLE SMS, i just compose a new SMS and when selecting name/number I scroll to Google SMS and viola !

This is a nice tool, i have noticed some delay in regards to querying my search etc... but if you have the time and dont mind the 2-3 min delay it's an AWESOME tool. i also use http://wap.switchboard.com another good info/directory site/tool

Seems like Google SMS isn't stable yet. I tried it one time and never got a reply. Tried the same query the next day and got the results in under a minute.

Thanks for the info. One of the guys at work here tried it and it worked fine. It is in Beta so it is not probably stable yet as you said.

Google SMS 46645 is flaky at best.

It was down for sometime yesterday.

I'm getting back responses as of 2:30PM Pacific time.... Wasn't working this same time yesterday.

I was playing around with Google SMS today and was receiving replies within 5 seconds.

All I did was send an SMS to the 4xxxx number. I also added a "Google SMS" entry into my address book and entered the sms number in the "Mobile" field.

The free Berry 411 application lets you search with Google, Yellow Pages or White Pages with results sized to the 7100 screen (without any graphics). Instant results are much better than searching bySMS. Another bonus is that Yellow Page results are sorted by distance from your chosen address (work, home or other) - very helpful for restaurants, post office, etc.

This starting working all of the sudden. Response time is about 10 seconds or so.
