Default Blackberry Data Plan Work On iPhone 3GS?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, new to the site.

Just wondering if you can help me on a situation I am having,
I'm on a 24 month contract with Orange with the Blackberry Data Plan and I'm now bored of the 8520 Curve

I'm looking into a PAYG iPhone 3GS (obviously on Orange) and I'm wondering whether I'd be able to use the internet i.e. to surf the web, check emails, Facebook etc using the BB Data Plan.

I've searched through god knows how many forums trying to find the answer and most say that it is possible if you change a few settings on the iPhone.

Can anyone help me finalise what most forums say?
Will it really work?

(Bare in mind that using an Orange phone for this may differ to one on a network like AT&T or Verizon)

Cheers

Just call up orange and change to an iphone data plan from a blackberry data plan.
As its an add-on you can change it.

How much is the iPhone data plan on Orange?

I know the BB one is a fiver which is pretty much a bargain, although knowing Apple it'll cost quite a bit more.

It should be the same I believe.
Look on their website, or call them up tomorrow and ask.

Orange is a ball ache trying to find out the cost of iPhone add ons,

It seems I have the bundle called "BlackBerry email £5", if I was to buy the bundle called "Mobile Internet 500MB for £5" would that work on the iPhone?

Also, would it be GPRS or 3G?

I don't know.
You'll have to call to change it anyway, so call them and ask.
It will be 3G, if you have a 3G capable phone...

I looked at their site and it is indeed a bit confusing. It does indicate they offer an upgrade option so as suggested, call them.

IPhone 4 is 3G and uses a micro SIM so you cannot switch SIM cards.

Yeah a friend has a iPhone 4 and I had a look today realising it used a Micro SIM so that isn't an option.

I've seen so many forums saying it'll work but...it seems too easy to be true?

The SIM will not work so you need to get a plan and phone including a new SIM.
The service plan is another issue. As suggested give them a call.
Good Luck

"When you have BB data plan, it will be compatible with any other phone and BB itself. But Visual VoiceMail won't work of course."

a search on a few other forums indicate if I put my bb sim into a 3GS (not 4) and I shouldn't have any problems. whereas if I was doing vice versa it wouldn't work.

Does no-one have the phones necessary to try this?

Out of curiosity, why are you (MatthewJones) so reluctant to ask them this simple question?

Yes you can use the BB data plan on a iPhone...not sure about the 4 but I know it works on the 3G and 3Gs. You need to have the right MMS and Wap settings for Orange for it to work. I have used my 3G with my BB data plan and also plan to use it on my 3Gs when I unlock it. I switch between my BB and iPhone on TMo and use the BB data plan, you will need to jailbreak the iPhone to be able to change the settings btw
