Default Tour Teardown / Fix Your Trackball

Please Login to Remove!

at the site below, i have made a step by step tutorial on how to fix your blackberry tour with pics.

the problem with the trackballs is from how the trackball sits on its own little board. in some cases it becomes loose or misaligned, putting a shim in will push the board up to the right height and you will be able to scroll left to right once again.

the direct link to the fix is http://cero.yolasite.com/how-to-open-phones.php

although you don't have to, please click on the ads (you don't have to buy anything / doesnt cost you a thing) so the server i use doesn't think that i am useless to them. think of it as a pat on the back

as always if you have any questions feel free to ask.....

Wow, great guide. Please post back in a few weeks if this is still working. Of course I'm hesitant to do a tear down like this and leave a foreign object in my device.

Wow - I'm am nervous about some of those steps, but I have to do SOMETHING. This trackball is driving me nuts, getting worse every day. And Spint today said I am past my 30 day window for replacement. I guess I have nothing to lose - will need to buy a new one anyway?

Thanks for finding a solution! Too many people kept saying it will be fixed in a software release - obviously not!

Even if you're past your 30 day window for replacement, you should still have 11 months remaining on the warranty. The 30 day replacement window is just one where you could walk out of the store with a new device. But they should replace your device via FedEx for up to a year without any hassle at all. It may be (probably will be) a refurbished unit. But if you try to fix it yourself, you void even that warranty and are out of luck if it doesn't work.

Not a chance of that happening.

Don't do this yourself. It voids the warranty. Verizon will replace the device free of charge. Just call them.

My replacement from Sprint (free - 60 days into the contract) came today. The trackball *appears* to be working perfectly, for now. The new new Tour they sent me was brand new (not refurbed) and had a serial number thousands past my old one.

I think I'm in the clear - for now! I will post if it gradually deteriorates like my original did.

I've had my Tour since it came out and all I've had to do is give the trackball a really good cleaning ounce. I guess I'm lucky.
