I followed the directions to the letter. I still got "No software update is required for your device".
I also tried using the loader.exe in the apploader folder.

You downloaded the exe of the new OS of the net. Ran the exe to install to your computer. Then go to the C:PrgramFiles<commonfiles<rim<shared<loaderfiles< made sure and delete the files for your old os .40. And that the new one is in there for .53, if that is the one you are going to. Then go back to C:Programfiles<commonfiles<apploader and delete the vendor.xml and then click the loader.exe.

Okay, I am not seeing a difference with battery life. In fact, if anything, it deems to drain quicker!
Any ideas?

OK, what am I missing here. I've had a curve and have done several OS updates, so it's not like this is new to me. I'm trying to update my Sprint Tour.
I downloaded and installed the East Asian .53. I deleted the vendor.xml file, then for good measure, restarted my PC. I also did a battery pull on my Tour at the same time. I went back to the AppLoader folder, verified that the vendor.xml file was gone, then clicked on Loader. The wizard starts like it should, but does not find the new OS. I also tried using the apploader within DM. It checks my Tour and gives me the message that no software is required my device.
I've tried this on two different computers, so I'm thinking the problem is probably with my phone itself or some setting.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Did you delete the old OS folder for .40? And you have checked device and still says you are on .40?

Might wanna check with him. Also if you just use the loader.exe you are not really using the DM so you should be ok. But not 100 %

BlackBerry - Desktop Software for Mac

Or looks like you can download DM for Mac right there.

Just to be sure, you didn't just delete the OS .40 folder, did you? To upgrade successfully, you have to go to the Control Panel and Uninstall the .40 so that your computer only sees the new OS as being installed.
(This advice only applies if you haven't already tried it this way...)

Ok, I uninstalled the EastAsia version of .53 and installed the AMEA .53. This version updated my Tour flawlessly.

After using .53 for about 12 hours, I am going back to .40. This update was really unstable on my device.
