Yes, the IM client interfers with the phone even if it is not being used.

I dont think BES 3.6 has this option... but am not for sure. We went from BES 2.2 straight to BES 4.0. You can probably call RIM (if you subscribe to T-support) and they can let you know for sure.

Verified... removing the IM Client resolves the reboot issue. We removed the client from our 7100t devices (about 50+ in total) and it has resolved the issue. Just be warned, that the client is still in the data stream and the device may pull it back down again (unless you can block it from the BES).

Unless other carriers are using the OZ IM client, they should not be affected.

Also, removing the IM client has no barring on the functionality of SMS.

I agree. I have had the 7100g for over a month and have never had a call dropped or this reboot problem.

Not trying to go off topic too much, but you can choose GPRS in the SMS Setting menu. Just Navigate to Tools----> Settings -----> SMS

Then choose what Network to send over. From what I have read, this doesn't eat into your SMS bucket if set to GPRS or GPRS preffered.

Now.. I return you to our normally scheduled topic.......

Not that Im aware of.... you might be able to call TMO. They may be able to block it to your device via your PIN and IMEI numbers... but that is just a stab in the dark....

Well, I deleted the IM client and the service book two days ago. Yesterday, my phone shut off/reset on three occassions...a new record. I'm not implying that the deletion of the IM client caused this increase in resets. However, I am implying that the IM client may not be the (only) source of the dreaded reset problem.

BTW...I checked to make sure that the IM client and service book entry weren't resent to my 7100...they weren't.

Default T-Mobile tech suspects the SIM card

When I described the dropped call, sometimes restart problem the T-Mobile tech support rep came back at me suggesting the problem might be the SIM card.
My new SIM card has a dimple; pushing out the gold contact side thus creating a firm contact with the phone.
I haven't had any problems since, but that can simply be a coincidence. Time will tell.

For the most part, deleting the IM client/service book has resolved 99% of our issues, on about 60 devices that we have deployed. We still had a couple of straglers that rebooted a couple of times... However, after we either reloaded or RMA'd these devices, the issue cleared up.... So, it could be a bad load or bum device as well.

I just got my 5th replacement from TMO..... Hopefully the issue will stop or they will provide a fix that works soon, this is getting old.

I guess it could be possible that since we are blocking IM via our BES, it has something to do with it... Since that would be the only difference between us and a BWC user.

It has to be on a BES 4.0 server.
Its not just a 'flip of a switch' on the BES. You have create a policy and push the policy to the device. I have all of the documentation from RIM. Its fairly straight forward. Also I have the IM .COD files that need to be loaded on the BES. Send me your email, and Ill send you the documentation and files.

Angry Other TMO Phones same problem

I just ordered my 7100t and I was just looking on here to see what I can do to my new toy. I currently have a Sony Ericson T610 that is doing the exact same thing that you guys are talking about its very weird. Has there been a solution found yet?

Smile Keeping fingers crossed...

My Microsoft Exchange Team informed me that they were able to block the service book on the BES, and so far after 6 phone calls it hasn't reset!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is it!

I'm hoping that OZ releases an update soon!

Just to be clear, I am a BES user also...not BWC. I deleted the IM client and the service book several days ago. They are still gone, but the calls keep-a-droppin.
