Default Red envelope on e-mail icon on home screen of Curve 8520

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone. I am new to this site and this is my first post. On the home screen of my Curve 8520, a small red envelope has suddenly appeared on the e-mail icon. I can still send and receive e-mails. Has anyone any idea what this means and how can I get rid ot it?

Check to see if you have an unread email or message

Welcome to BBF.

Thread moved to the 8500 section.

If there is no new mail, BBM or Social Media message, try a battery pull to see if it disappears.

Sounds like maybe a new icon style was pushed to the device. I remember windows live/hotmail did that a while ago (but I notice the windows live icon on my device has gone back to the same as the others).

EDIT: Hah! I resent service books and my icons are back, the special yahoo email icons with the Yahoo icon, and the Windows Live icon with the little orange envelope.

Definitely no unread messages, whether e-mail, SMS, BB or Facebook. Thanks aiharkness, I don't use Windows Live but my e-mail is Hotmail so perhaps Windows are behind this in some way. It doesn't seem to affect my ability to send or receive e-mails but it is annoying and I just want rid of it.

Sounds like it's just the icon style. Don't worry about it. If that's what it is, there's nothing you can do anyway.

Have now established from other online forums that this little orangey-red envelope is, as aiharkness suggests, simply the new logo of the "new improved" Hotmail so we are stuck with it. Nice of Hotmail to so this without forewarning anyone!

Its not Hotmail that did it, its RIM that did it.

And it is nothing to get worked up about.
