Default Internal GPS vs. Bluetooth GPS - which is better?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm choosing between an 8800 with internal GPS for Telenav or a Curve with the external Bluetooth GPS. Opinions?

Seems the external might be nice because you can throw it up on your dash and don't have to worry about your BB having sky view and can avoid the window mount. But maybe I'm crazy and internal GPS is the way to go.

Good and bad things about both choices.

With an internal, you have an all-in-one type of unit in which you don't have to carry around an additional piece. If you think you'll need the GPS "out of the car" while walking around, perhaps the internal is the way to go.

The nice thing about the BT options is the ability to use it with other devices - your laptop, your BB, etc. - and a lot of them are small enough that they fit in your shirt pocket.

The Curve has a camera, so with a BT receiver you've got "the whole Monty".

I have an 8830 from Verizon and have found the BT receiver a great way to go - I can use it with the BB and also my laptop, and my older PPC.

Hope this helps.

Agree there seems to be pro's and con's and maybe one isn't necessarily better. I haven't used a BB with built-in gps, but one advantage of it would be you never have to go looking for your puck. One advantage I thought would be with the BT puck is it is on it's own battery, but others report the built-in gps doesn't hit the battery noticeably.
