SO...here's what I have for you guys. The 7130 supports mp3 ringtones, so here's the easiest way to get them on your phone without messing with editors, mime types, etc.

1. Go to allofmp3.com
2. Find the song you want
3. Select the song
4. Click download sample
5. Upload to your server
6. Load up your BB browser to the mp3 file
7. Scroll Click and Save
8. DONE!

NOTES:
1. The BB Browser is case sensitive. It is best to rename your mp3 file to something easy to minimize mistakes. Better yet, just email yourself the link.

2. Don't try to use the link from allofmp3.com in your BB Browser. The link will attempt to stream the mp3 file...which we know won't work.

3. If you are having trouble downloading the mp3 file, make sure you have "Support Embedded Media" enabled in Browser Configuration. I also have "Support JavaScript" enabled, although I am not 100% sure that is necessary. If you're still having problems, try changing Emulation Mode to Microsoft IE.

Hope this helps.

Ominx.
What sever do you upload it to?

I uploaded my mp3s to my ISP's server using an FTP program, I sent myself a link to the mp3 and I keep getting: HTTP Error 406: not acceptable

What am I doing wrong?

Cyclops have you found the solution to the 406 error? I am a 7130e user and dealing with the same issue. :(

I'm having the 406 error problem too somewhere in my efforts to do this. But I also don't know how to upload to my server, or even know quite what that means. I'm sorry to be so elementary, but would it be possible for you to give step by step directions for someone who knows absolutely nothing about this stuff? I don't even have an iPod or MP3 player, so I'm really in the dark!

And is it true that Verizon disables lots of features but other wireless companies allow them? What's the deal there?

Wirelessly posted (Telus Mike 7520 / Telus 7130e: BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/126)

Can anyone send me a link to a cheers theme mp3 that I can use as a ringtone? I was able to find one, but it's got so much noise and it's really quiet. pin:300faab0. I I have no pc or internet right now, except for the bb.

I have figured out a basic answer to some people's questions...

When they say "server" they mean anyplace on the web that you can store stuff, ie mp3's. So I have a website...I uploaded song.mp3 to my root folder of the site. www.site.com/song.mp3

Then go to the browser on your 7130e and enter url with the "Go to..." function in the menu. This will reguest it then load it and then automatically play it in the audio player. Then hit the scroll and hit "save" it will automatically default to your tunes folder. Done.

All you have to do is get a standard mp3 file. Don't mess with other formats. But the beauty is any mp3 will do. dbpoweramp is a great app for your PC that will convert almost anything to mp3. In case you started with some other file format. Hope this helps some less tech inclined folks!

Ryan
...oh and remember don't steal or misuse copyrighted stuff because that might be against the law etc etc...

I thought of a couple things maybe needed by really knowledge-lite people.

If you don't have a web site...people above referenced free storage places. Search for them and find a free one. In this case your link will be much more difficult to use...because it will be longer with more obscure characters, but the site will give you a direct link. I still recomend copying it directly into your 7130 "go to" function. When you try to actually email it and then click the link it was giving 406 errors for reasons I didn't find to be legitimate.

Also, I have verizon and everything worked perfectly.

Here's something that's so much easier...

Email it in what file form? MP3 does not work, as the device will not allow you to save it...

Actually, it does. I made my MP3 file using Soundforge. I then uploaded the mp3 to my Geocities site. I copied the link to the MP3 file and emailed it to myself. I clicked on it in the email (Get Link) and wa-la...It popped up, played and I was able to save it to my phone.

OK! I got it..Problem is now, the volume is very low, how can I adjust the level on the audio clip? How long are your mp3s? did you stick to the 15 second guideline?

UPDATE!

Can do 30 seconds clips and I adjusted the volume.....

SWEEEEEEEEEEEET

I now have BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE! on my Blackberry

I too have a verizon 7130e. I edited down an mp3, hosted it on store and save.com, but can't get it to download to my phone. I click on the link that I emailed myself and it gives me the option to download the mp3, but then nothing happens. i tried another hosting site w/the same result. any ideas?

Do a search for MP3 tones. I use Audacity and my mp3s are working fine.

Ok I have followed all instructions here. I have uploaded mp3 file to my isp server---no luck. I have emailed mp3 to my blackberry----no luck. I am at a loss here. I keep getting 406 errors. I check the details and it states unable to load audio-x something or other. Any suggestions? I am on Verizon with 7130.

Here is a link to the mp3 I have loaded http://home.comcast.net/~coolshock1/dangerzone.htm.

Also. When I log into the BIS account I can see the attachment when emailed to myself. It will play in the email.

Oh yea I also have the newest updated software.

://home.comcast.net/~coolshock1/dangerzone.htm[/url]

That is your link...it should end with .mp3

you need the literal link to the file itself...not to the page on which it is found. That may actually work but I haven't tried that with the BB. Figure out the actual link of the file itself and you should be good to go.

http://home.comcast.net/~coolshock1/mp3/dangerzone.mp3

Above is the link. I have tried it both ways with no success.

Error 406: Details---- 200:Application can not accept the content [audio/x-mpeg]
