Question MP3 on 8700c. Anyone had any luck?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Have had the 8700C for a few hours now. Great phone so far.

Has anyone had any luck with downloading an MP3 from a link on a web page?

After uploading the file to my web page, and clicking the link on the Cingular browser, a popup window on the 8700 opens up with no text and just an "OK" button.

After reading the manual it looks like this is the only way to load them.

Any thoughts?

It has to be loaded by the web browser and there are restrictions, took a lot of trial and error to figure this out but there is a 120k file limitation, and the MP3s have to be no less than 32000khz. Anything below will not work...hope this helps. Links from webpages work fine aslong as they are fitting the requirements...

I don't have an 8700, so I'm flying blind on this, but based on what boygenius has said this may work.

Try downloading this ringtone using your 8700: http://www.davidenglish.com/wml/oldphone1.mp3. If you can't download it, try using: http://davidenglish.com/wml/oldphone1.mp3. The specs for the MP3 file are 56kbps, 44.1kHz, and mono. The file size is 43KB, so it should fit the requirements.

You can audition the ringtone with your desktop browser at: www.davidenglish.com/wml/oldphone1.mp3. It sounds like an old style phone.

MP3 can be aslong as the encoding at 32000khz and 120kb can be, I think thats around 8-10seconds, at a lower sample rate like 8000khz the quality is much lower but a 120kb file could be 40-50 seconds I think thats why they have that limitation. MP3 can only be downloaded in the browser, same with .midi, and .wav. Hmm, music loop not sure, have not had much success with that, just the profile options, 1, 2, 3 rings...

I'm sure as more of us expirement to make mp3's that are compatible with the 8700, I'm wondering if anyone would like to host them on a site where we can all upload our tones and share them with one another.

Awesome. I'm sure everyone will appreciate it. I am in the process of trying to make my mp3 ringtones compatible with the blackberry. I have some that I used on my Razr but I'm still learning to tweek them as I guess the size of them is too large for the 8700r.

Thank you SOOO much for the CTU phone ring, That was my ring and it was driving me nuts not having it on my 8700!

The link is a little weird (adds and extra "http"), try this: http://www.kalkounis.com/files/CTU24.mp3

Is the 120k file limitation imposed by the browser? I cannot seem to download anything (pic/mp3/wav) that is too very big at all. Any way around that?

I think it is imposed by the browser and MMS supports up to 300k problem is there is no other way to get audio on the device besides the browser, or MMS. And the latest software on Cingular does NOT support MMS. So browser may be the only option...

I made one with Garageband / iTunes for Jimmy Eat World "Think Thats All"
http://www.singlemanriot.com/rings/Jimmy_Thinking.mp3

The settings were spot on, 56kbps / 32.000kHz - I exported an existing mp3 from iTunes as a AIFF, drag into Garageband, edited the loop and exported back to iTunes. I then converted the new file into a mp3 (with the new settings) and posted to my server... worked like a charm.

Strange, when I downloaded this to my PC I get Rock City Angel's "Halfway to Heaven."

Edit my ERROR! It is the way that stupid iTunes continues from one item to the next.

just a question, what version of HH software are you using, I have heard a rumor that you need to roll back to the 3.1, but that didn't make much sense to me...hoping that someone could clarify that for me. thanks

Dumb question I know but do any of you feel like sharing some of the mp3 ringtones you've made for the 8700? Thanks to dtmfjunkie and singlemanriot for posting their ringtones.
