Did you try leaving your self a message, checking it, and then does it go away?

I just send myself another voicemail and delete it, it's always cleared the icon. I've had the icon get stuck once or twice but that worked for me.

You can also call your provider's customer service and they should be able to clear it.

I thought I'd cracked it, but it appears not...

I noticed when swapping sims that the voicemail indicator seems to be tied to the simcard.

So I left myself a message, and then put my sim in a sony ericsson phone (also an Orange UK phone) which now indicated I had two new messages on its icon. I listened to the message and pressed 'save'. The icon disappeared!!!

But now I've put the sim back in my blackberry it's icon is still there...

I already talked to Orange, and they said this was a known issue... I think meaning I should wait for a software fix....

One thing I've noticed about the voicemail indicator is that it will stay if I delete a message and immediately hang up.

I have learned to wait about 5 seconds after deleting the voicemail, and you can watch the indicator disappear from the phone before you hang up.

Anytime it's gotten stuck on there, I leave myself a voicemail, call in, delete it, wait for it to disappear, then hang up.

That has worked everytime for me.

This seems to be a different sim-card (and possibly Orange UK) related problem... perhaps a network or sim update will fix it, but I'm not sure

Ahh, someone else has noticed!! I look after 100 blackberries at a company using Orange UK. We have had this problem for nearly a year and a half, and are suitably pissed off with Orange over it.

We have tried:

1) taking the battery out for a bit
2) saving voicemails, waiting, then deleting
3) upgrading the firmware on the handhelds (the latest upgrade was supposed to fix it - it did not)

The only thing that works is to replace the sim card. But even then, this is just a temporary fix, as the problem will likely come back at some point. It's difficult to say, as i don't know how are users are using them (but they're not aliens).

Incidentally, it seems to be more likely to happen to our users when they go abroad with global roaming. Does that concur with anyone else?

So, well getting my handset replaced today, the nice man at Orange, tried one last test with my voicemail, where he left a message, asked me to wait 10 seconds after it gave the delete option, and then delete it (this all being done with my old sony ericsson...). Voicemail indicator disappeared, then I turned the phone off and on, and the indicator reappeared... So as soon as my handset comes tomorrow, I can phone and get a new sim sent. Seems to be the only solution. I'll probably avoid North American roaming as well, as it costs a bomb.
