Default Can you upgrade a 8100 OS to 4.5 with AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

This is my first blackberry, and I'm also new to the forums so please bare with me.

I've got AT&T and a Pearl 8100. When going through the page on blackberry.com to download the most up to date OS for my phone, it only showed a 4.2 version that I can use with AT&T. So does that mean I can only upgrade to that OS version? What if I upgrade to 4.5, will I encounter alot of problems with my AT&T service?

If I can't upgrade to 4.5, do I just have to wait till AT&T supports OS 4.5?

yes you can upgrade it to 4.5. Follow the instructions for 4.5.0.37 that are at the top of this forum (only the OS for the 8100 will work) and you will be fine. carrier doesnt matter.

Desktop Mangler will back up for you. I'm on ATT and I did the upgrade a couple weeks back. If you have Color Pearl installed on the phone, delete it prior to installing 4.5.

Desktop Mangler's Media Mangler crashes under Vista. D/L the version w/o MM.

I don't run vista. Where can I get Desktop Mangler? Does it replace the standard blackberry desktop manager and roxio media manager?

FYI, DM 4.5 works flawlessly (for me) on Vista. Even Media Manager!

It's one in the same. They were making a word play joke off of it.

be careful, if you have to ask these question you might not be ready for some of the challenges of a beta OS and the use of a non-carrier supported OS. The people here seem helpful though but definitely be careful especially if it is a mission critical device.

4.5 is a beta OS? Wish someone would have told me that before lol. This is not a mission critical device, just my own personal BB.

I just read the stickied post at the top of this forum for OS 4.5 and I'm understanding this alot more now. So when you hit the upgrade button when you get prompted to upgrade, it will completly backup your BB?

No it won't!

See this link:

Keep in mind that since 4.5 is a beta some of your apps may not work.

Good Luck!

I called it "mangler" as a joke. Media Mangler is a POS it crashed, but the normal mangler works fine.
