Default Unlocked 8900 Javelin Won't Call/Text

Please Login to Remove!

Today I purchased an unlocked Blackberry 8900 Javelin because my HTC was broken last night at a concert. It was previously on the Rogers network and I inserted my SIM card from Virgin and it loaded my contacts and my WiFi appears to be working.

However, under Service Status it reads:
Status: emergency only
Connection: not connected
BlackBerry Internet Service
Connection: not connected
BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Connection: not connected
Mobile Network SOS
not connected
Mobile Network Provider
Rogers Wireless

Then, when I go under Mobile Network Options from that menu it says:
Mobile Network: VIRGIN
Network Selection Mode: Automatic

So I'm not sure why one spot it says Rogers one it says Virgin this could be the problem?

Under Sim Card it shows my proper SIM ID and my phone number properly from virgin.

Please help!

I checked the one screen and it said disabled every where it was supposed too

To determine if your BlackBerry is "unlocked" for use on carriers other than for which it is branded:

1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.

2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.

If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx and 81xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.
3. Look for Network in the list.

4. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier.

Another thing could be the SIM has been disabled by the carrier. You may need to call them.

I followed those they all said disabled. I do not see why my SIM would be disabled as I was using my phone fine last night before it broke. Can they automatically disable it if i put it in another phone? Should I call Virgin or will they not help since I am trying to use a Rogers unlocked phone?

I read that virgin won't work on 8900 because its not 3G? could this be true? If so which blackberries are 3g?

Please be patient. You only waited about 30 minutes! We are all volunteers here.

The 8900 is a GSM device. If Virgin Mobile is a GSM carrier, then it should work. If it happens to be a CDMA carrier, which I don't think it is since you have a SIM card, it will not work. Different technology.

Perhaps it is time to call the carrier and talk to them? There are conflicting bits of information floating around and I am not that familiar with Virgin Mobile either.

Sorry for being impatient I appreciate any and all input i have received, just upset i dropped a big amount of money on this phone and now apparently the 3G thing is my issue

I don't see that as an issue. As I said above, you need to call your carrier and talk to them.

Also go check the Virgin Mobile section at HowardForums.com Might be able to get some info there.

I checked Howard, they're updated rules say that Virgin Canada phones do not work with any other service providers phones. The rules were last updated 02-07-2009 though, was this before Virgin switched to the use of Sim cards?
