You need to call your carrier and ask them to DELETE the BIS account.
Otherwise your pin is still registered and the new owner won't be able to register.

[unless you plan to use a new BB, entering your new BB pin and imei will remove the old pin from the account]

I believe its options - security - menu - wipe handheld
or something that effect.

Hi guys, I am new here at the BBForum & new to BB as well.
Just as the OP, I have received a 2nd Hand 8900 Curve.
I need to reset all the data that belonged to my friend who's promoted himself to the iPhone 4.

Do i need to contact the former service provider or can i format the handset my self..?

Thanks,

Guy, you can reset the device yourself, Options > Security > Menu key > Wipe Handheld.

The device should be wiped, Options>Security Options>Security Wipe............Then the Phone number/account needs activated under you so not to associate with other user, at least how I do our or BES and my users, pretty much same.

Depends on the device the security wipe could be in different places such as Jsanders said above, I've seen under password and hit menu button to left of trackball too.

It varies with the OS release. On the release the user stated, it will be as described.
For the phone number, it will change with the SIM inserted.

The PIN of the device needs to be associated with the new user's account.

I haven't been successful in formatting the handset.

Also, 1 thing that i must mention is the fact that this handset has Password Protection - you need to enter a password to disable the keypad lock. (I want to disable this function as well..!)

I (the New user) haven't yet subscribed to the BIS. I will be getting it done by the month-end, as i will be relocating. In the meantime, is it possible for me to format the handset and set-up my email and social-networking accounts via Wifi..?

The key thing you omitted is the "why" you have not been able to format, or wipe the device. Why not? What happens, what error or failure?

Then you need to use JL_Cmder to wipe and reload the OS.

No, you must have the BIS account active ON the device to setup email, Facebooks, etc., and those apps which require BIS data.

You can use WiFi meanwhile, with the browser in Hotspot mode (Options > Advanced > Browser > Hotspot and save) when you are connected to a WiFi router for browsing the internet. That's about all.

The 1st thing that happened, after Wipeout was that the handset prompted me to set a new password..! How can I disable this..?

Thanks, JSanders, for your time and help. Thanks a lot..!

Your BlackBerry was probably previously used on a corporate BES service which required the setting of a Password. Look at Options > Security > General settings and at the password lock setting where you can disable it. Can you? Is there a small red padlock icon there?

See the link below to use JL_Cmder to "resettofactory" for your device, Method One in the link.
