It does take long time

Yes, you didn't say what NAV program, was it in the phone like Google or BB Maps, or did you purchase and activate it.

I use Telenav with CBW and it only takes seconds, sometimes less than 5.

It finds the GPS in doors most of the time and only seems a little slow with heavy cloud cover from storms. Kinda like my Direct TV.

Default 8900 gps mapping

Hi......About 15 minutes, if you are using the software supplied.Even on the top of a mountain. About 30 seconds if using something like google maps.

Great phone, just need to sort out the mapping software....

Moved to more appropriate section.

The best answer it 'It depends."

You must be outside with a clear view of the sky.

You need to have "Location Services" on.

You need a BB data plan. The device has to download the ephermeris table for the GPS constellation so it knows which sats to look for and where. They are in an elliptical orbit, not a geo orbit.

I have found that using GoogleMaps for the initial activation can help speed it up. Google uses cell tower data to position you within 1700 to 2500 meters until GPS locks on.

It can take 20 minutes or so for the initial lock on, but generally less.

You'll have to clarify what you mean. Have you tried using any GPS apps on your BB or refreshing your GPS in Options?

Options > Advanced Options > GPS

GPS Data Source: Device GPS
GPS Services: Location ON
GPS Location:
(Your location)
Location Aiding: Enabled

GPS > Refresh GPS (via Menu key)
(Do so outside.)

GPS Location should update.
