Default Holster and Lock Handheld question?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm a long time Blackberry user and one day 8700C owner. Before I exchange the phone I had a few questions. When I take the phone in and out of the holster it is hitting various keys, is that considered normal? I then activated lock handheld when holstering and it is still hitting keys and such and turning the phone on etc. Third its not dimming the screen upon entry into the holster, if the phone is of fand I holster it then the phone turns on, is it safe to say its a phone issue or perhaps I have the wrong holster? Cingular wants me to return it but I thought I would see if this is a common issue. Thank you.

If Cingular is saying return it and get it replaced, seriously take this opportunity to do so. It's not often that cell phone companies actually RECOMMEND returning it to them. They usually try and get out of replacing them.

Yeh they are going to send a new unit out but I have a feeling its the wrong holster? the number on the holster is ASY-06669-001 It does not fit right, this is my first 8700 but i have a 7100 and 7230 the holsters seem more fitted. I looked ar the rim site and the holder for the 8700 looks different than this one. If anyone has the part number for the holster I would appreciate it? Thanks

.... I had the same problem . It's more than likely the holster’s magnet not being seated in the correct spot. One way to tell for sure is to flip the holster over and place your BB next to the magnet. If it dims, locks, etc. then you know the phone is ok. Good luck.

you have to get used to the different feel of the 8700 when lifting it out of the holster. I stillhave issues with hitting keys when removing it. I always seems to dial someone before i can realize it.
Had other versions of BB and this is the only one i have had lift issues with. Maybe it's my fingers

Question Give us an Automatic Keyboard Lock when holstered

Perhaps the Blackberry development team in Waterloo will incorporate a keyboard lock capability into the next OS so that the Blackberry, upon being holstered, automatically disables the keyboard.

It's annoying to unholster your BB and have some application or feature engaged on the display that you don't want engaged.

Seidio do make that skinned holster for the 8700c that I think would remedy that problem. I believe the skin is just thick enough that holstering...albeit a different holster altogether...the 8700c as recommended would not cause any of the keys to be depressed. I'm thinking of purchasing one as soon as I decide whether I'm going with the 8700r or the 8703e.

They already have that feature.

I recommend the RIM leather holster. It's easier to holster and unholster, doesn't scratch the body of the 8700, and the magnetic flap secures the 8700. The flap's not that big of a deal to get used to either.

Though I never had problems hitting keys while holstering or unholstering my 8700 back when I used the OEM plastic holster...

I just bought my Blackberry 8700c from Cingular Thursday, and my holster is doing the same thing. The girl at the Cingular store put the BB in face down by default, saying that it protected the screen, but now that I've played with it, it's clear that the holster's design presses the keys on the far right and the far left of the keyboard. Very annoying -- for the BB to be functional, you have to remove it from its holster or put it face down in the holster, which is pointless. So, where can I find a holster that actually fits?

You are right! I guess all the inadvertant button pushing occurs just before holstering and just after unholstering, especially while seated in a car, etc.

umm, not to sound sarcastic but are you holstering the blackberry correctly? You're supposed to holster it with the screen facing the holster wall. If you were holstering it like that you wouldn't be able to tell if it was dimming the screen when you put it in.

My guess is you're trying to holster it with the screen facing out which is why you can tell the screen isn't dimming and why the case is hitting the buttons.

Pretty embarrassing since you made your carrier send you a new one.

I have a Tmo 8700g, but I use the leather 8700c holster I brought from a cingular store (i dont like the flap like the Blackberry and Tmo holsters have). when i put my phone in the holster front facing or rear facing the keybord is locked when I remove it. So the feature is already included perhaps your holster is defective or as some have indicated maybe you are using it incorrectly.

Are you purposely locking your phone when holstered? I only ask because I've never seen a feature where the keyboard is automatically locked when holstered, without some kind of user intervention.

I feel like an idiot. I didn't know that I had been holstering my bb the wrong way. Now it works like a champ!! Thanks

Can someone explain the logic to me? How do you see who is calling if you have to holster your BB with its face down? Even on the Seidio holsters that allow you to have them face out, the clip magnet turns the screen off. Seems you want to be able to see the screen -- am I missing something here?

Sure, take it out and look at the screen. You want to PROTECT the screen. Not see it. When it is on your belt, there is no way you could see it anyway, unless you can do things that only a few girls I have ever met can do ;)

When it rings, Take it out, look at screen, answer/ignore/put back in holster.
