Default BB 9630 - password problems

Please Login to Remove!

I just flashed my BB 9630 (over the air) with the latest firmware update (v4.7 -> v5.x), and my password will not unlock the device. Previous password was <alt>zxcvbnm$ After 5 attempts and having to type blackberry, the clear-text will display 7xcvbnm, but not the $. I even tried using the $ in the symbols directory. I'm at 7 attempts...any advice?

TIA

I have tried to mimic typing you password coz I had password problems when I upgraded from 4.2x to 4.5x and once I solved my boss' password problem. Will following info help:

1st me: I realized the upgrade made Blackberry pre-emptively/predictively unlock any existing number lock (or any existing caps lock) when a dialog pops up. A dialog is a small window that pops up like the password window or questions windows. I realized that the alt key was being cancelled when the dialog popped up so instead of typing my old password that had only alt keys coz of predictive unlocking I was typing a password that didn't have alt keys at all.

2nd my boss: He was backing up his Bb and when he typed his password on the PC keyboard Bb refused it. I realized that he had memorized his password as a number when in fact it was the alphabets of the same number keys.

3rd your case:
If its after an upgrade you "could" be safe coz upgrades normally do backups. I hope you also made a backup, just get someone to confirm that
a) u have a backup.
b) if you exhaust your trials you could restore your info from a pre-upgrade backup. I wish you had more trials available tho. I'd have asked you to try these passwords
1. zxcvbnm$
2. 789?!,.$
3. 7xcvbnm$
I don't understand why u can't type $ coz I can.
N.B. I don't have the same kind of phone as you and your stated pre-upgrade version should already have had the predictive feature in it so your problem might not be similar.

I would suggest a battery pull before your last attempts. Hopefully that will clear your keyboard problem. You should also connect to DM and see if its accepted that way, also do a backup. There is really no other way.

Yes try hard reset
Connect to computer

It is likely that the language is set incorrectly so that a $ is being entered as a British pound symbol or the like. I ran across this exact issue in the past, but I cannot remember how I got out of it.

This is a problem with the currency key. I had a user who had the same problem. You can get the dollar sign by using pressing the symbol key and then Z. THat worked for my user.

This should work. I use the $ in my password as well and I've run into this when upgrading the OS. The currency key is not set, therefore it doesn't insert anything. Using the Symbol key and selecting $ (Z) will enter the password correctly.

I pulled the battery last night, and installed the latest version of Desktop Manager. When I connected the BB, I was prompted for the password, which I entered from the keyboard 7xcvbnm$...Rejected. I then tried <alt>zxcvbnm<sym>z, which was displayed as 7xcvbnm$...Rejected. Now I'm on #9. Any more suggestions?

TIA

Strange that this means that your blackberry is saying that you didn't really know your password, I'm assuming you had used password for quite some time.
Try these numlock keys and get done with it:
789?!,.$
