HELP! DM Sync error 0x80040fb3
Please Login to Remove!
Help!
While trying to use the first user field in Outlook to be the place to enter a contact's handset PIN, sync (Desktop Manager 4.5) keeps tripping over just one record.
The dialog box says:
Error encountered. Error code - 0x80040fb3.
Check documentation I searched that string both here and in the support database and NOTHING FOUND.
Since it's my son's record that's tripping on synch - and since I just put him on a plane to Washington this afternoon - I'd sure like to resolve this.

Got the issue analyzed and resolved.
A single Outlook Contact record was read by the DM as being corrupt - that's the translation of the code.
When I removed that record from the sync session, it ran fine.
I did have to go back in and manually enter a doppelganger for it, and that one synched fine, so I deleted the original
Feel free to close this thread now, since we now can translate that cryptic error message into a clue into what's going on.

Can you elaborate a little more on this.
I'm having the same error on DM 4.5. I also got the same error when I tried to upgrade to 4.3. I don't have this problem when running 4.2.2. I'm running XP Pro.
I get the error during the "processing devise calender"
I tried this:
DM 4.3 Error: "Check Documentation" or "Transaction Canceled
The DM Log said: Internal Error #-725 Translation Canceled.
Or you are getting "Error Code 0x8004fd2b"
Complete the following to fix:
1. Make sure BlackBerry Desktop Manager is closed.
2. Locate the Intellisync folder on your computer. This folder can be found at C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\. If you can't find the Application Data folder, see note below.
3. Rename the Intellisync folder (e.g., Intellisync_old).
4. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
5. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
6. If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.2 or later, double-click Synchronize, click the Configuration tab, and then click Configure synch. If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 or earlier, double-click Intellisync, and then click Configure PIM.
7. Configure your synchronization options. For assistance, click Help on the Device Configuration window.
8. When have finished configuring the synchronization options, click OK to close the Device Configuration window.
9. If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.2 or later, click the Synchronize tab, make sure the Synchronize organize data check box is selected, and then click Synchronize now. If you are running BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.1 or earlier, make sure the Synchronize PIM check box is selected, and then click Synchronize now. A new Intellisync folder is created.
Note: If the Application Data folder cannot be located, the folder may be hidden. To make this folder visible, complete these steps:
1. While viewing the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>, click Tools > Folder Options.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Select the Show hidden files and folders option under Hidden files and folders.
4. Click OK.
It didn't work. I've deleted all the conflicting calender entries.
It's driving me crazy.
Thanks,
Jeff

ARRRRGH,
I tried to downgrade back to 4.2.2 (which worked fine) in order to solve the problem and now get a new error.
Right at the beginning: "internal error see logs"
At the end of the log I get a couple hundred "failed range" calender entries then this:
Field mapping used for translation:
Microsoft Outlook Device
Subject ------------------------- Description Title
Start Date ---------------------- Start Date
Start Time ---------------------- Start Time
End Date ------------------------ End Date
End Time ------------------------ End Time
Alarm Date ---------------------- Alarm Date
Alarm Time ---------------------- Alarm Time
Reminder Set Flag --------------- Alarm Flag
Body ---------------------------- Notes
Show Time As -------------------- Free Busy
Location ------------------------ Location
Private ------------------------- Private
Meeting Attendees --------------- Attendees
Unable to write application data record.
Translation Canceled!
Edit: These logs were for when I tried to synce with DM 4.5 It is not even logging 4.2.2
Help please, I need to sync.
Jeff

Help me before I lose my marbles!!!!!
Anyone?????
I performed a "clean uninstall" successfully and re-downloaded DM 4.5.
Installed and set-up the sync preferences with Outlook 2007.
I set up the calender sync to go back 10 days and everything else to sync "everything".
The first three syncs went fine, no error. Then I noticed that the phone data was not going to the Oultook calender even though it was set as a 2 way sync.
I went back and changed the calender setting to sync everything and got the DREADED error again right at the end of the calender sync.
I went back and set it to sync future items only but still get the error.
I'm about to snap

Error 0x80040fb3 Resolved
[I read a thread that said the error message might be caused by one of the contact's information having unrecognized symbols or otherwise being corrupt. Since I knew the information was good in my 900+ contacts on the BB, I used the DM to access the synch profile for CONTACTS and selected the option to copy from my device to the computer's Outlook and replace all the contacts in OUTLOOK. That resolved my error problem. Hope that helps.

How did you figure out which record it was?

I am having the same problem. The sync (actually, I'm doing a one way sync from Outlook to device) stops at the same record ever time but I don't know how to identify "record #1738". It's probably obvious but I'm not figure it out.

I feel so much better to hear you say that...
I'm making myself crazy here trying to figure out what this isn't liking. Continuing to pour. I never had these issues with 4.5, but I have a new PC, new Outlook, and new BB desktop 4.6 so it's hard to isolate what's messing it up since there are so many variables. I just know that I do not want to be a DBA for the rest of my life. I just want to synch my stuff!!!

i got this same error message and the way i solved it was
1.- I exported all of my contacts from outlook to a excel file
2.- deleted all of my contacts from outlook
3.- sync the empty address book with my BB
4.- imported the contacts again from the file created in step 1
5.- sync
all of the contacts now went into my BB, no error message

Error Code 0x8004fd3 Solution
This has been plaguing me since I have had my curve and I now have the Bold syncing with the BDM (I now have ver 4.7 but I also had 4.5) I believe what is tripping up the system both on the calendar side and address side (I am using vista and outlook 2007) is the use of attachments and pictures.
If you go into CONFIGURE>>SYNCHRONIZE>>SYNCHRONIZATION on the BDM, click on ADVANCED, it will bring you to a new screen that has the Calendar, Memo Pad, Addres Book and Tasks tabs at the top. Click on Calendar and then down at the bottom click on the MAP FIELDS button. Make sure there are no attachments being mapped to the device from outlook with an arrow. If so, click on the arrow and detach the mapping for that field.
Do the same for the ADDRESS BOOK tab and detach any reference to pictures on the device or outlook. Seemed to work for me. I hope it helps.

Same problem 0x80040fb3
I was hoping the previous reply would help but it did not. I have eliminated the mapping of photos and attachments from my address book and calendar.
Other things I have tried:
-exported contacts to excel to examine all the fields.
-installed v4.7
Is there any way of turning on or viewing some sort of log file which would tell me which record it is have a problem with ??
Outlook 2007
BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.7

I had problems with synchronizing my Outlook 2007 calendar with Desktop Manager v4.7. I got the same 0x80040fb3 error. I fixed it by:
1. Peforming an Advanced Find, using NO PARAMETERS, in Outlook. This should give you all of your calendar events.
2. I selected all of the search results. (CTRL + A, CTRL + C)
3. Paste all the calendar results into Excel.
4. Review the data. Usually, you will find a weird value or formatting in the Subject or Location field.
5. Once weird value is located, I deleted the calendar event and recreated it.
6. Synchronized my BB without issue.
I hope BlackBerry will fix this bug. These is a cheeseball workaround.

Hi everyone: First post. Found forum looking for the 0x8004fd2b error.
An alternative fix that worked for me was to:
1) Write down my current synchronization settings under "Synchronize -> Configure Synchronization -> Synchronization"
2) Under "Synchronize -> Configure Synchronization" click "Reset Configuration"
3) Then re-enter all of my synchronization settings under "Synchronize -> Configure Synchronization -> Synchronization"
Regards, -gReG

What worked for me was deleting all the items in the device calender and then re-syncing.
Hope it helps

I've been plagued with this problem since I bought my previous Blackberry device. I don't understand why BB isn't capable of resolving this frustrating bug after more than 3 years of having it open. Sorry - "Delete your data" is not a viable solution. Moving off of a BB device is likely the next corrective action to this annoying problem.
What I must do to resolve: Open the TIF file, identify the last attempted record. Either recreate (which isn't always an option since I may not be the meeting organizer) or modify the record. Rinse & Repeat until no more errors occur.
I encounter this problem at least once a quarter.

Fixed my problem
I tried multiple fixes for this. I only received this error (0x80040fb3) during the calendar sync. The contacts sync fine.
After multiple attempts - the fix for me was:
1. In Outlook - use the Tools/Instant Search/Advanced Find
2. Complete a search with one parameter: birthdays
3. Copy/paste your birthdays into an excel for future use.
4. Delete all calendar entries with birthdays.
5. Resync
I know it sounds completely odd - but it was my birthdays.
Previous attempts:
- Checked for odd calendar entries
- Checked for odd entries in each calendar entry
- Removed all holidays
- Removed any calendar entry that didn't appear to be entered correctly (had odd characters in subject/location)
And a long list of other attempts. But.. oddly enough removing the birthdays helped. (It is important to mention that I had to disable the Facebook Calendar as well! But this was a long time ago)
HTH.
