Angry Software problem - cannot locate .msi

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all - I'm at my wit's end (short trip!) regarding an embrassing problem with my own PC and BB setup, and I'm hoping someone has a answer.

I've received a new PC, running Win XP Pro with SP 2. When I install BB desktop v 4.0 OR v 4.1, I get an error indicating the software cannot locate the MSI file to install a Nextel 7510 BB. I supervise the wireless devices of a Fortune 300 company, and we've got every BB made, excepting the WiFi version, and the accompanying headaches. If I try to install the 7510 package, I get an install wizard error (as I do with any another BB package at this point).

I've uninstalled all the BB software, and reinstalled - no change. Downloaded new version of the software, and reinstalled - no change. Uninstalled, cleaned out the Registry as bast as I could find (THERE'S a fun task), reinstalled - no change in problem.

Any ideas, anyone?

Link is dead. Can you repost it. Or tell us the help article number at BB.

Thanks.

I think I have a solution for you. I have come across this problem at my company, and this fix has worked on every blackberry that has had this same problem so far.
A Clean Uninstall would probably be a good idea, but it will not fix the problem as you have already found out. I did the following to fix the error message:

1. Open regedit
2. Navagate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Installer/Products
3. Withing the Products folder will likely be two to three folders. Click on the folders, and delete any and all folders that have any references to "Installer"
4. If you have not already done so, Uninstall / ReInstall the Desktop Software and configure it however you configure it.
This should fix the problem, as it has worked for all the blackberries that I have had to work on here at work, which is quite a few.

Hope this helps

Link works for me, it's article KB-04107. Just had the same problem myself.

On a side note, "I supervise the wireless devices of a Fortune 300 company, and I don't know how to Google an error message." That's rich!
