So it happened again.....my bb up for sale on eBay...and some Nigerian or whatever 'bought' it. Please!!!!

Also, is it just me........ever since Nigeria got bb service (early Aug of this year)....has anyone else noticed posts that are written in very poor English asking questions about unlocking or 'how to get rid of data connection refused' (http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tupid-but.html)

Sounds like maybe these people are actually obtaining the phones by morons on eBay and now asking questions on how to use them......

I could be wrong...I just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

Same here, trying to sell my RAZR and some goon (registered with ebay yesterday with zero feedback) bought it last night. He was wanting to send the phone to his son in Nigeria. Could barely put together a sentence in the email he sent.

Such a freakin hassle to wait 7 days to get a ebay fee credit.

Just Some info from Ebay on my Nigerian experience:

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to item #320012994702 that was
recently won by eBay member forenoonltd.

The bids placed using this account occurred during an unauthorized
account takeover. We took immediate action to stop the activity as soon
as we discovered the situation. We are now in the process of restoring
the account to its rightful owner.

Because the account holder didn't actually bid on your listing, please
consider the sale incomplete.

How This Might Have Happened

It could have occurred in a number of ways, including:

- Fake (also known as "spoof") email messages are being sent to eBay
members asking for User IDs and passwords. These messages look like
they're sent by eBay Support but they are not. eBay will never ask for
sensitive information of this nature via email.

For more information about how to spot spoof email, go to:

Spoof Email Tutorial - Page 1

- Someone guessed the member's password. For this reason, it's important
to use a password that uses a combination of letters and numbers, making
it very difficult to guess. The same applies for the password hint
question. It's also important to use different passwords for the various
online accounts you use (such as email, PayPal, and so on).

For information about choosing a secure password, go to:

Creating and Protecting Your eBay Password

- A computer virus recorded the member's keystrokes. We recommend that
all members keep their antivirus software up to date and use a firewall.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Redd
eBay Customer Support

Come on guys PLEASE...

I am sure with your expansive vocabularies you can find less offensive wording to use than this. Mr Culp, Pyro is on my BB Messenger listing. I believe he speaks SPANISH. This may come as a complete surprise to you gentlemen but English is NOT everyone's native language and we should be a wee bit more tolerant of those making the effort to learn our language. If you ever happen to find yourself in Nigeria, I trust your EDO will be up to snuff BEFORE you utter the first word

I was just citing that post as an example...I now realize what I was implying and for that I apologize.

Response I got from E-bay regarding this in case anyone is interested

"The items recently listed with this account were the result of an
unauthorized account takeover. We were not aware of this activity until
after the listings appeared on the site.

As soon as we became aware that an unauthorized person took over this
account, we reacted immediately to resolve the problem. We are currently
in the process of restoring the account to its true owner.

If you receive an email offering to complete this sale, we strongly
encourage you not to accept the offer.

Such a purchase would take place outside of the eBay site, so it would
not be eligible for eBay services, including the eBay Purchase
Protection program. For more information, go to:

Offers to Buy or Sell Outside of eBay

We also ask you to report any emails offering to sell items outside of
eBay. To do so, simply forward the email to:

[email address]

There are a number of possible ways this account takeover might have
occurred:
- The seller may have had a simple password or password hint question
that someone could easily guess.
- A computer virus that logs and records keystrokes may have detected
the password.
- The seller could have unknowingly revealed the password to another
party."

...Is almost completely unintelligible. I think the more important point is, if you want assistance, but nobody can understand you, it makes it hard to provide that assistance.

Additionally, it has become commonplace on eBay, through email and a variety of other scamming methods, for the sender to use broken English. Unfortunately, a small few are ruining it for legitimate non-English speaking folks.

I'm all for being tolerant, but the statements of:

"Could barely put together a sentence in the email he sent."

and

"posts that are written in very poor English"

sound like plain old fact to me. Saying something was written in "very poor English" is not offensive. I've heard teachers say that to their students. "Johnny, this is written in very poor English. Please rewrite it."

Saying "Goon", well, whatever. He was a scammer, so that qualifies.

Regardless, it's funny that they send fake paypal emails. Usually, right when I get a paypal email, I logon, and start the transfer to my bank account before I even think about shipping anything.

I don't think anyone was talking about you as a scammer.

He was calling scammers "goons" in general.

He was just saying that you couldn't write very well in English.

Your last post didn't help that point.

See. He was talking about the Nigerian guy as a scammer.

If you're from Nigeria, my apologies. Then maybe he was talking about you.

Something curious happened. This guy, pyro619sd just private messaged me and asked me for my PIN.

He just said "whats your PIN".

And that's it. The only thing I could think of is that I pissed him off some how, and he wants to start harrassing me.

I could be wrong, and it could be nothing bad, but it's a little strange to me.

Obviously, I didn't give it to him...

EDIT: Well, I tried to respond, but he's not accepting PM's, or he's banned...

I have bought and sold hundreds of items on eBAY, including 2 motorcycles and dozens of phones. When I sell, I set up the auction where you have to have an established pay pal account to bid, no zero feedback and no negative feedback in 30 days. I did that after having to list my motorcycle 5 times because of 'unauthorized users' bidding for other people. I just got my new 8700g for $186 last week.

I too received the "send it to Nigeria" email and fake "paypal" payment. I always look at the headers of the email to see who it's really from. In my case, the "paypal" email offered almost $200 more than the winning ebay bid if I would send the item to nigeria. I'm out of my fees, but on to the scams which seem ever present.

I recently sold a few items on ebay. One scam was a "russian" sending me an email asking if I would send the computer to her sister in Russia. The winning bid was from someone who wanted me to send the computer to Nigeria. I got the whole "paypal" email thing. I reported it to ebay. Something to note: Check the join date for the person who won the bid. If they just joined that day, it might be a scam. Definitely read the feedback left by others.

Post Who 's Jewish blogger Shoher?

I found tons pages of that pundit.
He remains a pen name in order to fool Israel's censorship, and he published very odd views about Israeli policies.
