Default Opera 3.0 on Cingular 7100g - problem

Please Login to Remove!

I know this has been requested before, and believe me I have searched, but I have not found a suitable answer.

Can anyone provide the final word on how to get Opera Mini to work on a Cingular/Blackberry 7100g? I have already entered the TPN information: (APN: wap.cingular; Username for APN: [WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM]; Password for APN: CINGULAR1)

When trying to run Opera Mini I get the 3.0.10:80/ error "You do not have a working network connection."

Are there any other settings on the Blackberry that need to be changed? Do you have to be running BES to use Opera?

I'm running BIS. I have a data account, good signal, GPRS. Both the stock Blackberry and Cingular browsers work.

I’ve just downloaded the latest version 3 (not Beta) and get the error message “Failed to connect to the Internet”.

Thanks, Jim

You do not need to have BES. After entering the APN info did you pull the battery? I found that after entering in the APN info I was still getting the same error. After a battery pull it worked fine.

Thanks for your reply Paul. Yes, I've pulled the battery and rebooted.

For the password I see you have CINGULAR1. Is that period in your above post to end that sentence or are you including that into the password? Dumb questions I know, just trying to pinpoint things.

No, the period is not at the end of the CINGULAR1 entry on the Blackberry.

Thanks, Jim

Default Opera 3.0 on Cingular 7100g SOLUTION

After having scoured this forum, the Cingular forum and the Opera forum, I believe I have finally found a solution for my Opera connectivity problem.

On the Opera website it shows the following setup for "Cingular NO Acceleration."

Address
ISP.CINGULAR
Username
[email address]
Password
CINGULAR1

FWIW the setup for "Cingular WITH Acceleration" is
Address
ISP.CINGULAR
Username
[email address]
Password
CINGULAR1

And the setup for Cingular (non-contract) is
Address
WAP.CINGULAR
Username
[email address]
Password
CINGULAR1

The "non-contract" setup is the one that is being recommended on this forum and others, but it never worked for me. The "With Acceleration" setup worked right out of the gate.

I honestly don't know what the terms With Acceleration, NO Acceleration, and Non-Contract mean. Hope I don't get hit with a bunch of unexpected charges. (I already am paying for Cingular/Blackberry data.)

Thanks, Jim

Well, "accelerated" sounded like something I wanted, if it performed any better. So although mine had been working fine with the settings from the forums (your "non-contract") I tried resetting to the "with acceleration" settings and could get no connection at all with those settings, so reverted back to what I've been using. No idea why only that one worked for you and wouldn't work at all for me. <shrug>
