Default Assigned ringtones not always working

Please Login to Remove!

So I have a few different ringtones assigned. One for all calls, and 4 different ringtones for 4 different people. Sometimes the assigned ringtone will play when the caller calls, and other times it won't...it went to the default one just a second ago when my friend called (not even the one that I have set for ALL calls, a completely different tone). Anyone know why this is happening?

I just noticed this morning, that the same thing is happening to me. I have winter wonderland set for all calls and then I have special ring tones for about 6 people on my list, but winter wonderland either always plays or it's vibrate only... Not sure why

I have the problem as well, but only after I make a change to the assigned persons ringtone. Even though I have a new one selected, it will play the one I had previously.

Not sure how I fix the problem, but it usually involves a few reboots. I have tried deleting the contact and reassigning the tone but that does not seem to be the end all solution.

I had the same problem, and as I recall the fix has something to do with carefully saving the changes after you select a new RT. Reboots did nothing.

That's just weird. For one of them, it was working everytime the person would call and then this morning they called twice and each time it was a generic ringtone that I didn't choose for anything. Then for my other friend, hers wasn't working when I first set it up and then she called me today and her finally worked. SUPER weird.

They're calling from different phones to mess with your mind (and it's working)!

I am having a related, but different problem. I created several ringtones and saved them to my media card. If i go to the media player in the phone, the ringtone plays fine. when i assign it to a person and they call, it only plays the first 3-4 seconds. weird.

Red face How to assign ring tones

How do you assign ring tones to specific callers?
Also, How do I assign specific tones for text msgs, emails waiting, and voicemails waiting?

I had that problem....is it an mp3 or a wav file? The program I was using to chop the songs would only export them as wav, so when I put it on my phone it did the same thing yours did. I had to download another program that converted the wav file into an mp3 file. Now it works perfect!

When you are in your address book, choose a contact and go in like you are going to edit it. Then when viewing their info bring up the menu again and hit "add custom phone tune". For your other question, go into profiles, and scroll all the way down to advanced. Click on Loud or Normal or whichever you want to edit and then choose phone, MMS, Messages etc. to edit which ring it will have.

What I noticed was that .wav files play 3-4 seconds & .mp3 play for 10-15 secs.

Two things I can think of...

1) If you've changed the name of the ringtone in any way, it won't recognize it any more (depending on the OS).

2) Go into your profiles screen and make sure you have the exception box checked in the exeptions list (at the bottom of the edit profiles screen, where it says "Use active profiles except for:") Anytime you modify a user's ringtone, his name will appear in that list. If you check it, the applied ringtone will work. If you uncheck it, the phone will ring with the same ringtone as all other calls do. Hopefully this helps you.
