What is your intention for needing the "lock icon"?

1) Do you want to lock the keypad to prevent accidental key presses?
2) Do you want to lock the phone to prevent people from accessing your data?

If it is 1), then use the Mute/Lock key found at the top left corner of the phone. All you need to do is toggle it on and off to unlock the keypad. No password needed.

If it is 2), then you need a password to unlock the phone.

you can accomplish this by pushing the button on the top left of the phone. This locks the keypad and prevents accidental key presses ( I was making lots of calls on the speed dial accidentally) you can unlock by pushing this key.

If you want more security you have to set a pass word. I did it but took it off. It was a pain.

Thumbs down Re: problem with the keylock

hi all, i have been a bb user for years now and have been very happy.

however, i have just started using a bold 9700, good enough for me. BUT.

now the keylock top left button locks the phone (so the button itself works), then it will NOT then UNLOCK the phone, this means i have to take the battery out....etc

i have changed the voice key to be password locker, but i prefer to use the lock key as it tends to get pressed in my pocket anyway...

can anyone help? will a complete reset sort this issue?

usually the unlock button is the mute button (the one from the top of the phone). this is how you unlock bb9000 after soft 5.0 so i guess should be the same at 9700.
if the mute button doesn't work (or breaks down, at some point they all do) just press and hold pressed the turn off button (end call, red one) untill in says press any key to abord turnning off... should work.

regards,
blez

Take a look at the following thread and note the OS versions numbers and compare to what you have.
