Default Network issue from Hong Kong (Peoples)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I signed a contract with UK vodafone for 24 months in uk last year with a blackberry 9000 phone. And I bought myself a new 9700 from uk because my 9000 is damaged by a dog of my mate(bloody hell)!

And this year, I will stay in hong kong. But i want to continue my blackberry service with this 9700. I have paid the remaining contract fee in UK. My phone is unlocked when I bought it. I assume I had unlocked because I can use pay as u go sim card in Hong Kong any network provider!

However, when I try to apply for a new blackberry plan in Hong Kong, the supplier told me the 9700 is not unlocked and is blocked by the UK network. I have no idea why and can anyone please answer this?

Thanks a lot!

Ho Chuen

Did you cancel your BIS account in the UK? If not you will need to contact them and have them cancel your BIS which will release the PIN and IMEI for you to use with the new carrier.

But I bought my blackberry 9700 from ebay! I suppose it has nothing to do with vodafone(UK). And I have no idea where the original carrier is.

Well, did you activate it, and receive emails, use blackberry messenger on the 9700 when you were in the UK?

Yes, you need to get vodafone to DELETE your BIS account.

I heard back from vodofone.

'Hello Mr. Wong,

Having checked your account, I confirm that Blackberry internet service on your phone.

If you wish to use non Vodafone SIM card you need to unlock your phone with the NUC (network unlock code).

We wont be able to provide you with the NUC as it not available in our data, you need to contact the place of purchase (ebay).

Once you contact them, you'll get the NUC for your Blackberry 9700

Trust the above information is helpful. '

Therefore now, I need to get the network unlock code from the internet again. And after I unlocked it, suppose it can be used?? Right?

But I went to my blackberry Sim card and press MEPD. The screen show everything is disable(which means unlocked). Therefore, I have no idea what I should do.

Thanks

They are idiots and you need (if you can) to actually talk to someone.

"I can confirm Blackberry internet service is on your phone".
^^ This is what needs to be cancelled. They need to DELETE the BIS account.

Don't mention using it aboard (its unlocked), don't mention you got it from ebay.
Simply say you want them to delete your BIS account.

I see that you have blackberry price plan, there is no additional service of AT BIS on your account.

I trust this helps.'

Ok, you need to call them and talk to an actual person.
Because the people replying to emails are idiots. That reply guy doesn't know what a BIS account is....

Once you get a person, try and get through to vodafone's technical support as they know alot more then the customer service people.

If you keep emailing, you're going to get no where.

As long as they truly have deleted the BIS account, and not just removed the plan, then you should be able to use data on the HK network.

I do not think it is a problem with BIS on Vodafone. I think you need to get your phone unlocked maybe....

I have a UK tmobile 9700 on BIS and when I go to HK, I put in my Peoples Sim but it is only their cheapest package of $38+$65 for BB meesenger and email access. No web surfing incl.

All I have to do is remember to switch off the email delivery on the card I am not using before I take it out.

So if I am using my HK peoples card, I switch off email delivery on my Tmobile and vice versa.

If I don't, when I put in the card again it downloads again all the email from the account!

I have not problem with swapping cards.

Different set of circumstances. Did you read the original post? The OP confirmed that it was unlocked.
