Question BES/BES email 'poll' time

Please Login to Remove!

Is it possible that BES/BIS (UK, Vodafone) have increased the period inbetween times which they 'poll' for email ?

I'm finding that emails no longer arive immediately as they used to and some don't arrive at all if I happen to log in to my web mail and read them first.

Thanks

I'm not sure how BES factors into your question.
BES doesn't really poll for email at all, and it's not related to any specific carrier.

So any delays would be wholly down to my provider, regardless of email account? (delivery to my email account is normal)

I'm not following... are you in a BES or BIS environment?
If you're in a BES environment and you're experiencing email delivery delays, then you'll want to talk to your IT department at your company.

Excuse my ignorance but what's the difference? I am not using a corporate domain. I am using a private emil address and have a Blackberry subscription.

Ah, I'm guessing I'm on BIS then....

OK, so you're a BIS user.

BES is BlackBerry Enterprise Server... for enterprise-level environments.

Unfortunately, I'm not all too familiar with BIS, so hopefully someone else can assist with your questions.

BIS polls the inbox for unread email.
It happens on a rotating basis, 15 minutes, if it finds, then 2 minutes, till it finds none, then back to 15 minutes etc.
It will not push email that is in the inbox and has been read.

For some providers (gmail for example) the push time is nearer instant, but for POP3/IMAP ISP or similiar accounts, its 15 minutes.

Just to expand on NidnightDraven's excellent information, if you are using IMAP and the server supports IMAP_IDLE (which GMail does) mail can often be pushed nearly immeadiately. All things of course depend on server and network loading, outages etc.

Ok thanks very much for the information. This still doesn't explain the difference in the almost immediate delivery I was getting up until approximately a week ago but at lest I can now aproach my email provider with a few questions.

Many thanks
