Early next year.

My thoughts exactly. Early reports said maybe by the end of this year. If not, I would think early next year. I am due for an upgrade and also waiting for the Tour 2. I wanted another Curve style device (keyboard) but don't want to downgrade to the new Curve 2. My only other option (other than waiting to see if another Curve comes to Verizon) is the Tour 2-----WiFi, track pad, GPS and can be used internationally. Not a bad device however the keyboard makes me nervous.

Why does the Keyboard make you nervous?

I tried the Trackpad on the 9700 I had a chance to examine last week. It is awesome. I wish BB had implemented it sooner. The trackball seems to become stuck on salt grains, dust and oil from your skin.....Wheel was better compared to trackball.

I'm used to the Curve keyboard where the keys are separated one from the other whereas the Tour2/Essex they are next to each other. This makes it a little bit tougher to type if you're not used to it.

It's something I think I'll get used to over time.

Yes - same thing as with the 8900 keyboard and 9700 keyboard.
Takes a few days to adapt. Nothing more than that (for me).
