Today I added a new Yahoo! email to my Bold. Afterwards I noticed that the texts from my husband and my mobile banking are showing up as an old college friend. I looked in my contacts and there were 2 listing for her. I deleted one and the other will not delete. I cleared the banking text and am now unable to text it from my contact book. I havent tried to delete my chat history with my husband. I went into the Yahoo! account and removed the college friend from the contacts. It still will not remove or edit from my phone. I do no know what to do! Please help!!!!!!!

I didn't follow everything you described, but it may not matter. Did you try a hard reset? This is always the first trouibleshooting step for weird issues. With the BlackBerry power on, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. Then try again.

I did but I don't think I left it out a full 30. I did that, and now my mother is my only Contact and she is listed 5 times. I guess the next thing to do is a factory reset?

Several possibilities. Do you use your BlackBerry address book standalone? Do you sync with something, like Outlook? Do you perhaps sync with more than one other data base, say facebook and google?

Don't do a factory reset yet. Simplest solution may be to clear the address book database on the BlackBerry and then re-sync or restore from backup, if either of those are possibilities.

The other question is what messed up the address book in the first place.

I don't use Outlook or Google. I do have Facebook and connect my contacts with it. The Yahoo! email that I added right before it was synced, but it was a brand new email account that had not been used. I've had the phone for well over a year and have added 2 other email accounts to it. The problem occured after adding the new one yesterday.

I don't use facebook and don't know what might be going on in your case because of facebook. See what others say on that point. I don't know how to back your way out of the problem without messing things up worse.

If there is no better solution, and if you have a backup, here's what I would do. I would de-link from face book. I would then use Desktop Manager to delete all address book databases on the BlackBerry. I would then selectively restore the address book database from backup.

All of my photos are on my SD & I have all my contacts that were lost in the new email. I'm just going to do the factory reset and start fresh. It will be annoying but also helpful in a way I guess. I have old apps that don't want to delete and now they will be gone.

Look up the instructions for backing up third-party apps before you reset the BlackBerry.

If you have no other way to get it again after you delete it, then if you are able to back it up you can then restore it if it gets deleted when you do the 'reset to factory.'

You need to look up that rouge contact on ALL possible databases to which you connect, like Facebook, Yahoo Contacts, etc, and eliminate from each one of these placed. If you don't, it will just keep getting re-propogated into your BlackBerry, and from there to all the other databases on which you keep your contact info.

So I went into my options and the wipe area. It has been over 20 minutes and it still says its erasing. I actually work for a cellphone refurb company and reset on different model phones. I have never dealt with a BB. It has never taken this long on any other model I've reset. Should it take this long? Did I do something wrong?

I just did ctrl alt del and its resetting. Hope I didnt mess it up!

You should have left it to finish wiping. No telling what is messed up. You may want to just start over from scratch and wipe the device with JL_CMDER or BBSAK and then re-install the OS. That way you won't be chasing down problems from now 'til who knows when, and you will be sure you are starting fresh.

Fixed it! Just had to manually connect to network. Service is back. Still no option to set my personal email up. Not sure about that yet. All the old apps are still on the phone. It did send an email to the phone in the messages folder from my personal email notifying me that you had replied to this thread. It's not connecting to Facebook but that is probably no fault of what I did. It acts stupid sometimes and its storming right now.
