Default Warranty on unlocked 8900?

Please Login to Remove!

I am considering getting an unlocked BB8900, but I am concerend about the warranty coverage. Are these devices covered by RIM and can be send in for exchange/repair within a year? Or are we completely on our own? I had to exchange my BB8320 3 times through T-mobile before I got a stable unit.

Any info is appreciated.

well... it can void your warranty, if they know about it... if you dont tell them its unlocked then the carrier wouldnt know the difference...

If you buy an unlocked 8900 from say me, i can give that 1 year warranty to you... most resellers cannot...

Well, are you saying if I buy an unlocked 8900 from an online reseller and it goes bust in 6 months, I can call t-mobile USA and get a replacement? I highly doubt its true; they should have a record wether the device was bought from them or not. I went on RIMs website and they do say that device warranty not purchased from RIM directly is through the carrier. I guess if I want that warranty I have to wait until t-mobile gets 8900

what i'm saying is most resellers cannot give you the warranty because the device is not theres anymore...

for example, if you buy a device from me, its a rogers branded 8900, i have an agreement with Rogers that allows me to offer that 1 year warranty... so with me... if you buy the device and its goes bunk in 5 months, you send it back to me, and the same day i send you another one (as long as its not physical or water damage)

alot of resellers cannot offer that warranty

How does "insurance" come into all of this? I have a Rogers unlocked 8900 on AT&T, and have the insurance through AT&T. If (of course, after AT&T launches the 8900), there is an issue, the guy at AT&T said it wouldn't be a problem?

My experience with Sprint is they won't do anything for a broken phone unless you have insurance. RIM claims all they do is manufacture the phone, they don't handle any repairs. I got one interesting reason, the carrier wants to make sure the phone is fixed correctly, right IMNSHO RIM will be definitely loosing out when all their devices start breaking and the bad reviews come out that BBs are fun and functional, but have a self-destruct date.
