O2 recently more or less admitted that there was no such thing as unlimited data. Furthermore they capped data at around 500mb although you can get more data if you pay for a higher data package.
O2 also introduced free tethering recently which is inclusive of your data plan. Ie. If you have a 500mb tariff then that 500mb can be used for BIS and tethering up to 500mb. Go over and you will be charged extra.
A call to O2 customer services may confirm all this for you but if you are on an older plan then tethering is not free but there is tether bolt on that you can buy. I am pretty sure that the new data cap was acros the board but I'm not certain.
