I have a Media Card and when I try to access pictures with the mass storage feature turned on, all the pictures are in .jpg.rem format.

I Googled this problem, and disabled the content encryption (Options > Media Card) on my media card so the files won't be encrypted in the future. Unfortunately, I have pictures that are encrypted on the media card.


How do I convert remove the encryption on the pictures on my media card? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. (Roxio doesn't recognize them)

Did you try "Options" -> "Media Card" -> "Encryption Mode" to "None"

Yes. I then turned off the phone, took out the battery and restarted. The files remain encrypted.

Assuming that encryption mode is set to None.. do this..

- Goto "Media" - Explore - Browse to the file you want to decrypt. Make sure the file to be decrypted is selected.

- Press the Menu key
- Press the M key (this highlights Move)
- Click the trackball
- Press the Menu key
- Press the M key (this highlights Move here)
- Click the trackball

Repeat the same for other files.

They'll always stay encrypted. That way you can have encrypted files on there even though new ones aren't encrypted. I have pictures of friends encrypted in case I lose the phone.

To decrypt them, what you have to do is copy them over again and the device will decode them.

Several ways to do this, but basically all have to be done by the BB. One is to copy them onto the device memory then back to the card. Or you can email them, send over bluetooth connection, and maybe mms if tiny. If you do the copy to device memory then back to the card, encryption has to be disabled. The other methods don't require that, it decrypts them before sending. Have to be done one at a time.

Another way in case you have a lot is itookthisonmyphone which is one of the banner ads here. You can upload them to the website and they'll be unencrypted. Then download them to your PC and move them back to the phone.

Hey this is way faster than what I was doing. The only thing is when I try to write the file over itself it deletes the file.

Edit: I thought there'd be a way to save with a different name but can't get it to save in the same folder without deleting it.

Is it possible to convert the jpg.rem files to jpg files without using the phone. My phone smashed/broke and my pictures are on the media drive/chip. I can pull them up on my PC but cannot get into the phone to convert them. Any ideas?
